Wall of useless, pretentious sound. Seriously.
Some of their stuff had a nice groove – their opening tune (or maybe one right afterward; I arrived slightly late) had a nice minimal-techno feel to it – but at other times it was way too noodly (and self-indulgent) for me.
And their set really would've been aided by some bitchin' visuals. All of that knob-twiddling did NOT make for an interesting set to watch.
Growing are playing tonight at Talking Head!
Ahh well…can't win em all.
perhaps the people who did not like growing were the ones who were too busy looking at others to see who were looking at them, or my favourite, the ones who stand around and talk for grating periods of time, as if shows are social gatherings of acceptance instead of musical experiences. from the moment growing took the stage until they left the building, they weilded unheard of power; took atypical music and shit on it, pulled it apart then stream blasted it back out to the crowd through god knows how many doodling doohickeys as guitar fuzzed, ambient art. as if thurston teamed up with ween and explosions in the sky to form a super group that most won't attempt to understand. may i strike them in heart as a new favourite!
oh, yeah, and hot chip can throw the f down! very rarely do i see a show that keeps me moving with a smile the entire time (flaming lips/polyphonic/widespread/phish) and the boys delivered. even the balloons near the end seemed appropriate. and since when did dc wake up and move their asses? even the band was digging the scene. and i finally took the nerve by the neck and dared asked a few people, "so you happen to post on the forum?" to only stares back of horrified, "how dare you speak to me" looks. oh well. i guess it was "too cool for the room" night at the club.

Someone dug them! :D
Awesome description.
I've never gotten the "do you post on the forum?" line before.
I've met boardies but had no idea that they were boardies until I matched up something they said to me in person with something they posted here.
"Holy shit either I met you last night or your thoughts are creepily word for word the exact same thing as someone else."
There's only been one exception to this and that's when one boardie introduced me to another. (er…wait…that's happened twice)
There was also the instance where another boardie walked up to me and addressed me by my first name. That was a trip.
