Does WILCO suck?

It's been awhile, so I thought that I'd resurrect this timely topic.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever heard a WILCO song before.

Why would you not at least be curious enough to given them a listen?

You like everything else that has ever been released in the history of music, and go to every show that is announced (if it's over $20). I don't see any reason why you wouldn't enjoy Wilco.

Wilco is excellent. Their last three albums are spectacular. They take chances but still remain extremely listenable. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was one of the best albums of 2002 and a ghost is born, albeit not as superb as YHF, is one of the best of 2004.

I'm a long time Wilco fan and have liked all their stuff until this year

A Ghost Is Born is just pure shite though….

I disagree. The first three songs on Ghost are some of my favorite Wilco songs recorded.

I thought I started to like it, but it has been a long time since I listened to it, so I think that means I agree with you.

Never really had the opportunity to hear Wilco…don't have friends in town who love the band (and, hence, play their albums); I'm not going to buy it without listening first due to the controversy over which album to buy, etc. There are a lot of bands I've never heard – I'm far less exposed to the world of music than a lot/most of the other folks here on the board.

Much to your disillusionment, I buy less and attend less than you think. Far more than you, certainly, but I have a definite genre or two on which I concentrate…a difference between us is that I'll happily pay $10 to check out a band I'm interested in.

I'm torn these days.

I agree that the first song on the new record is one of my favorite Wilco Songs.

Yet I also agree that I haven't been listening to it much lately - so maybe I really don't like the record.

Either way - I do still think that a smartly selected Wilco mix cd remains a fine, fine piece of musical art. So…No - I don't think they suck.

weird … i love wilco but think that "at least that's what you said" is one of their worst songs ever. and that "hell is chrome" sounds like a crappy pink floyd song. as if there is any other kind. yeah, even counting "piper." the rest of the album is pretty great, tho. i mean, they'll never top "summerteeth," but whatever.
