stellastarr*, monsters are waiting, soft complex roll ca

so like Fico, I have to make my plugs when I can…

anybody coming to the Rock and Roll Hotel next week for this show?

TUESDAY, FEB 13
stellastarr*
Monsters are Waiting
Soft Complex

$12 advance/$14 door

would be great to see some board folks out. this will be our last show for awhile as we're going to go and record a proper full length album…
This is probably going to sell out, isn't it…

Oy, it's a busy week! It's definitely on my calendar, so chances are good.
I really want to go to this but I just haven't gotten my act together and bought tickets. Plus, there's a lot of competition this month.
I'll be at this Saturday's show here in SF. I'll be sure to report back.
tickets are in hand…
yup, i'm planning on being there.

smackie, looking forward to getting a preview from you - thanks!
I've already bought my tickets, cant wait!
how is the sound at RnR Hotel?
the sound is actually pretty strong. I imagine stellastarr* will be bringing their own engineer, but Dan, the house guy at R&R, is really good.

glad to see so many people are coming. get there early if you want to catch us :)
will this sell out? i'm planning on going but i do not have tickets yet.
and by "strong", callat means "loud"… at least it was on the loud side last time I was there, albeit just after it opened. i'm sure they've gotten a handle on that PA by now. i'd recommend bringing earplugs just in case (then again i recommend earplugs for just about every live music venue).

get there early if you want to catch us
will try. what time is the fun kicking off, so i know what time to aim for?
yes, loud is definitely true.

its going to be an earlier night, I believe, given that its a Tuesday. We're expecting to go on at 8:30 and probably have about 30-40 minutes. Doors are at 8:00.

THANK YOU. while i can't wait to enjoy a good show, this old man wouldn't mind being in bed by midnight too…
Have a great show, callat. I wish I could attend, it's a great line-up.
If it weren't for Soft Complex, I would have recommended that you skip the opener. We had Minipop as the first band (decent, but not worth getting there early for) and Monsters are Waiting - a cheap Yeah Yeah Yeahs knock off and since I don't care for the YYY's, it was painful. But I always say support your own - so EVERYBODY get there for Soft Complex and then feel free to hit the back bar for MaW.

For purposes of full disclosure, I was in a bad mood before this show as I (1) went on a long run in the driving rain earlier in the day (2) the first band didn't start until 10, Stellastarr* didn't start until after midnight (3) it had been raining all week. Other than that, I was fine. So here you are, Stellastarr* at Bottom of the Hill in SF, Sat Feb 10:

Amanda now is a brunette. She looks better than ever. A+ - do you need anything more?
heh, as an inconsequential aside: any thoughts about the headliner's music or performance?
FYI - Monsters Are Waiting just cancelled, so we'll be hitting the stage around 9:30, and then stellastarr* at 10:30.

Thanks for the endorsement Vansmack - awesome of you.
I'm there for Amanda!!!

don't mean to diss MAW, but: AWESOME. based on smackie's review, we're not missing much and i'm mostly interested in the other two bands anyways. if this was a weekend night, i'd be happy to kick around and check out all three. what with it being a school-night, i'm happy to optimize my time.
Sorry, I just thought you guys would like to hear about Amanda….

Smackette is a bigger Stellastarr* fan than I am and she was the driving force behind going to the show. I liked their debut, but found the second album underwhelming.

The place was packed - I'm guessing around 300 for a 275 capacity venue. It was as crowded as I had ever seen it.

They openend with a rousing rendition of "Lost in Time" and I thought we were in for a lot of the second album. I couldn't have been more wrong. They took the keyboard off the stage and ripped through the majority of the self titled debut, played a few songs off "Harmonies for the Haunted" and even sprinkled a few new tracks throughout, one of which can be heard on their myspace page: "Warchild". They rocked a lot harder than they did on their album and played for about an hour and a half.

Tracks I remember(incomplete and in no particular order):

Lost in Time
Moongirl
Sweet Troubled Soul
Warchild
No Weather
in the Walls
Pulp Song
Jenny
A Million Miles
Damn this Foolish Heart
My Coco
Somewhere Across Forever

And some new ones that didn't yet have titles. Expect a new album this year.

Loud as hell and fun, I had a great time, and not just because I stood right in front of Amanda. You guys are in for a treat.
