Deerhoof show (was: Weekend Roll Call)

Who's going to:
2/9: Yo La Tengo (early show), Rapture (late show) at Sonar?
2/9: Jonathan Richman (early-930), then Vashti Bunyan at RnR Hotel?
2/9: Lifetime at Black Cat?
2/11: DEERHOOF at Black Cat?
Did I miss anything?

We're going to Jonathan Richman. I'd like to see Vetiver (opening for Vashti), but two shows in one night is probably a bit much for my pregnant wife, whose not a big live music fan to begin with…and she thinks Vetiver would be boring live.

I'm catching the Deerhoof show. I'd love to make it to Vashti and Vetiver, but I doubt it's in the cards. Too many other plans this weekend.

looking like jonathan's a definite, most likely for deerhoof/harlem shakes. wouldn't mind checking out the RNR hotel show friday night, but i already saw vetiver back in july at the warehouse (quite good) and get the feeling vashti might be more enjoyable on record. although i could be wrong. but it's gonna be cold.

i went to lifetime last night; world/inferno friends society was such a great time, and lifetime sounded dead on. however, the black cat is the worst venue ever to see a hardcore show at.

Co-sign Jonathan Richman. Wonderful show. And I enjoyed the Friday happy hour timing.

I saw Lifetime at the black cat. Unfortunately, I got there late and missed World Inferno Friendship Society. (someday i'll see them!!!)
Lifetime was totally dead on. I had soo much fun at the show. I agree with chokeychicken.
I can't honestly say if black cat is the worst place for a hardcore show or not. I thought the 930 club had a simular policy about stage diving meaning that they too don't allow it. My only complaint in terms of black cat being a bad place for hardcore shows is that the dance floor isn't wide enough like the 930 club.

When Lifetime played 930 last summer, the club took out the barrier and turned the place into an intimate club for the first time that I can remember. THey allowed stage diving, and the dance floor was huge, and the place was pretty packed. That was a great show. If I was seeing a mellow band, I would love to see them at the Black Cat; its a great venue with a great feel to it and from what I could tell, decent sound.
By the way. World Inferno was mind blowing. I can't remember hte last time I was that into an opening band. The friends I was with hated them; I couldn't have loved them more.

Who else liked the rainbow machine?!
So glad to see Deerhoof again. I think they're better as a 3-piece…
Harlem Shakes were boring as hell (they seriously need a new singer)…they took the stage at 9:40(!) WTF! It's inexcusable! Whatever Black Cat!

Do your friends not have souls? That band gets more and more fun every time I see them.
The first time I saw them was at Alley Katz; it was just them (no opener) and there were only 15 people were there, and they still played like it was a packed venue. I was hooked.

I agree…Deerhoof absolutely SLAYED last night. It seems the loss of a guitarist opened up their ability to just go wild with a lot of the songs. And the Electric Rainbow Machine was definitely the best stage prop I've seen in a long time.
Do they have some rule about not playing "O'Malley, Former Underdog"? I've never seen it live at any post-Runners Four show. That might be my favorite song of theirs period.

They didn't start until about 10:45. And yes, I agree that they did tear shit up last night. But where the hell was choco fight? One of the best and most fun songs on that album and it wasn't played either.
