Franz Ferdinand v. Broken Social Scene

Two "big" "indie" releases this week: which is better? Which, if either, have you looked forward to more? Which will sell more copies first week?
Personally, I like the BSS disk alot, but the prospect of new Franz doesn't really excite me, although I bet it outsells BSS. Thoughts?

I think it's a given that FF will outsell BSS. FF played on the Grammy's…they are on the mainstream map. Their album will probably debut in the Billboard top 10. BSS, most casual music fans aren't aware of.

You forgot the part about how we all love the new album. A- for effort, though.

The Broken Social Scene record isn't nearly as strong as You Forgot It In People. It is worth a listen, and maybe even worth buying, but definitely isn't as good as the other record. I haven't heard all of Franz Ferdinand yet.

I'll be picking up the BSS album. Not all that excited about Franz.
How about new My Morning Jacket?

I think the new Franz album is great. I'm a sucker for sharp guitar pop though, so that might be a given. I think every song on it is good, and some of them are great.
I think My Morning Jacket is going to grow into an even greater record after I've heard it a couple more times. It's a fairly big change from It Still Moves.
I never cared much for You Forget It In People, and was very underwhelmed by their show, so am going to pass on BSS's new one, unless I hear a lot of good things about it.

Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene = 8.4
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand = 9.1
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People = 9.2

I think people like the band because they think that it's catchy, well-played and -produced pop. It's not breaking any barriers but it sounds good on the stereo or in the car.
I don't even understand why people like BSS. There's just not a whole lot there, and their live show was sub-standard. I must have listened to You See It In People a dozen or more times and I still couldn't tell you a thing about anything on there.

I need to get the Franz Ferdinand, but haven't decided on whether to get the DualDisc or Regular "CD" version… DualDisc don't work in slot loading CD players, And I wonder if they work in CD magazines or if the DVD side gets scratched. And it the music side os going to work in any CD player I plop it into.
Regardless of what version I get it, it's assumed it comes with that god-awful copy protection Sony is using on it's releases these days. thus requiring much cursing to get it on Kosmette's iPod. Damn Apple for now wanting to adopt Sony DRM "standard"…

Wow, I totally disagree about Broken Social Scene's live show. I saw them at Black Cat last year and put it in my top five shows of the year (in a year where I probably saw 80 shows). I thought they were fantastic - high energy, lots of sound, very into what they were doing, and well arranged. I don't know how they'll be at 9:30, but at Black Cat they were fan-fucking-tastic.

Would you care to explain to me how I get around said copy protection to get it to my Ipod? I have a few albums that won't rip because of it, and I'm sure there's a solution, but never got aorund to googling for it.

I saw a show on that tour and likewise thought it was fantastic.
However, to be fair, Rhett said it was awful, and he DID see the opener, so I dunno.

i actually haven't done it yet, if you go to the website listed on the CD there are either instructions there or an email address where you can get them from. from what i remember from skimming them it's a pain to because it involves converting the files a couple times. you also get a nice editorial from Sony on how you should contact Apple and tell to fix it at their end.

Right, because restrictive copy protection schemes are the responsibility of third-party periphreal makers to work into their technology.

but doesn't everyone own a mp3 players that only works with Microsoft Media Player and it's DRM capabilities?
and isn't everyone that buys a CD these days automatically a criminal who will share it?
and why do i buy these CD and not just download the songs off the internet where some kind soul has already done the legwork for me…

My Foo dualdisc plays everywhere I've tried it, including the slot disc player in my car and the magazine CD player in my Dad's car. Just an FYI…I've also never had trouble with the copy protection on my Mac, but to be fair I haven't paid attention to what record companies I've been dealing with.
