Turkish father 'kills raped girl'

Police in the Turkish city of Istanbul have detained a father on suspicion of murdering his 14-year-old daughter after she was raped, reports say.
The man and a dozen relatives held with him are reportedly accused of taking a collective decision to kill the girl "for bringing shame on the family name."

The girl was abducted and repeatedly raped last month before she escaped.

A few days after her return, the father reported her missing - but allegedly confessed to killing her later.

The Milliyet newspaper said she was strangled with a wire and buried in a forest.

She was discovered after police received an anonymous call.

The case has provoked a huge media outcry in Turkey. Some newspapers criticised the government for delaying changes to the penal code to toughen penalties for what are dubbed "honour killings".

The changes were due to be discussed in a parliamentary sub-committee this week.

Human rights groups estimate there are dozens of such killings" in Turkey each year, mostly in the conservative eastern regions.

Many religions are pretty fucked up. Don't just single out Muslims, the vast majority of whom live as peaceably as the rest of us.

I agree wholeheartedly….but I've yet to hear a muslim denounce the acts of 9-11 or all the other shit they've been up to since, which isn't exactly "living peaceably", because their silence is condoning it in my opinion.

I'm not religious because religion is fucked up in general, muslims just more so than some others.

The train was very crowded, so the soldier walked the length of the train, looking for an empty seat. The only unoccupied seat was directly adjacent to a well dressed middle-aged French lady and was being used by her little dog.
The war weary soldier asked, "Please ma'am, may I sit in that seat?"

The woman shrieked and railed, and demanded that someone defend her and chastise the soldier.
An English gentleman sitting across the aisle spoke up, "You know sir, you Americans do seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You eat holding the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your cars on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you've thrown the wrong bitch out the window."

I won't had your ass to you, but the business I'm in has shitloads 'o' muslims in it. Most vehicle wholesalers are muslim….they jokingly call themselves camel-traders, only there's no camels in the US so they trade cars instead. I've had many a discussion on the subject and they can not denounce 9/11…the closest I've got is something like, "the events of 9/11 were extreme and shouldn't have happened…HOWEVER, if the US didn't oppress the muslim people maybe it wouldn't have happened"…it's the 'however' that I have a problem with…that's like saying 'she was asking to be raped wearing that mini skirt"

I also listen to talk radio a lot, and whenever the subject is discussed, the muslims who call in are either defending it or explaining it like the example above…never denouncing it.

Maybe they will suffer the same consequences as the poor girl in the story above if they speak out against it or something….I don't know.

but…aren't the muslim car traders that you deal with the guys binny hates as much as america? the sellouts?

Maybe the point is that many Muslims are just fine, but the ones that are bad are REAL bad.

I wouldn't say that about people of other faiths, and lest at present time.

I never said I don't like muslims, on the contrary, the ones I know are very nice people and I consider them my friends. ….we just disagree on the way they address the 9/11 issue, and I have a real problem with it.

How about the Christians who cheer on the abortion clinic bombers (plenty of these in Bowie)? How about the Jews who cheer on the bulldozing of Palestinian shantytowns that just might have a terrorist in them (or simply a military-age male)? It's all terrorism just the same.

Read my very first comment…it wasn't about terrorism, it was about a father who murdered his own 14 year old daughter because SHE'D BEEN RAPED and so dishonored the family. That's why I said they were fucked up.

But to respond to your comment….What about the Irish who bombed people minding their own business having a pint on a Friday night? You forgot that lot.
