i really hate this band....

has anyone ever told you that they hate a certain band that you like, and then when you try to defend that band, they tell you that its no use, because they have already heard all of their albums…multiple times?

is this really possible? that you can hate a band and yet listen to every last song they've ever written time and time again??? why would you subject yourself to that? or are there people that are that indecisive?

(this happened to me this morning, someone claiming to hate Pink Floyd…which in itself i am still struggling to believe)

I hate Pink Floyd. But I could never say I've heard even a small portion of their catalogue – but I've heard the 'seminal' albums enough in college to know I don't like 'em.

Ditto with Dave Matthews. I can tell you a bunch of songs that I despise thanks to having gone to college from 1993 to 1997. Ick.

I'd struggle to believe that also, I like Pink Floyd but there's no way I've listened to every single one of their songs, let alone someone who doesn't like them.

Often you're exposed to music because a friend, family member, or significant other plays it around you. For example, an ex of mine was really into Jethro Tull. Not exactly my cup of tea, but just because I didn't like it didn't mean he stopped playing it around me. Consequently, I know a lot of their stuff even though I'm not a fan.

Sometimes you hear a few songs by a band and aren't that impressed, but listen to more because it's highly recommended by someone whose opinion you value or the band itself has a good reputation.

Other times you may return to something you intially didn't like, to give it a second chance. I think that's cool. You may end up appreciating something that you just weren't into before for whatever reason.

i suppose its possible, but someone who took listening to music this seriously doesnt go around blurting out "i hate them anyway" when one of the members (the most important one) dies.

and while i can think of bands i have heard TONS of but dont like (Barenaked Ladies), i dont know if i hate any of them.

I hate Led Zeppelin. I was forced to hear their entire catalog during the period 70s-80s.

Obviously, sometimes this can be positive, sometimes not-so-positive. On the one hand, I was introduced to Zappa by my brother when I was 12 (and loved it). On the other hand, I am still recovering from the trauma induced by excessive exposure to Celine Dion by my roommate in college.

I hate Zeppelin. That's why I LOVE all cheesy cover versions of Stairway To Heaven.

You know, I think you may be right about that.

i dont smoke pot at all, havent in over 10 years and there is no band better than Pink Floyd, to me.

In 1990 or so I was living with my best friend during his hippie/motorcycle/easy-rider/bearded/patchouli phase (any guesses, pharmacist?)

Anyway, for one solid year, all I heard from his room was Hendrix, Sabbath, Blue Cheer and the Doors. All bands I loved. It was years before I could enjoy ANY of those bands…..

He actually had those buck-skin moccasin type boot things….I still tease him about it to this day!!!

I love Pink Floyd but am starting to get used to Led Zeppelin, I couldnt stand them for awhile because years ago working in a warehouse up north, we had classic rock on the speakers as we worked. Well, every other song it seemed like was Zeppelin, even a Zep set at 10 p.m. It got to the point that everytime we heard Zeppelin, we just wanted to rip the speakers out. Now, that I've been away from that job and not listening to them as much, I'm starting to actually like them more when I hear their songs.
