What does Beethoven say to you about your life?
To ignore the impact the Beatles and their body of work has had on the music industry and all bands after them (including the Smiths) would be extremely narrow-minded. They were innovative and influential in a way the Smiths could never even dream of achieving. Hell, I am sure I listen to the Smiths a good bit more often than the Beatles.. but that doesn't make them a better band.
I think this whole agrument goes back to the Oasis-sshole quote that if they were around first in the 60's they would have been bigger than the Beatles. If the Beatles had not kicked up the singer-songwriter market to the level it became, and the hysteria for British bands, the Smiths might never have formed. Definitely true for Oasis.

When I think of The Cure……..It always comes back to "Pornography"……love that damn album……and I saw 'em about half a dozen times for other albums……none compared……

The tour for The Top back at the old Ontario Theatre was a damn fine show.'84 I believe.

Virtually every track could be a single. Infact I defy you to name one that couldnt, other than the rather obvious choice of the two instrumentals.
The cure on the other hand had plenty of filler and album tracks of a considerably lower quality.
Ah, but everyone stumbles a few times on the way to greatness.
I wouldn't say that every track on every Smiths album is single-worthy, either, but that's just my opinion.

Well, for one, I will skip "I know it's over" 7 times out of 10, if I'm near the "next" button. I just find it to be sort of boring.
There are Cure songs that I would skip, too. I can't think of any band that puts out 100 percent greatness, every single time.
Maybe I'm just impatient. I have a habit of skipping through things to get to other things. Maybe I'm just that excited to get to the rest of the fabulous songs on the album?
While the production is more detailed than before, the Smiths are at their best when they stick to their strengths â?? "The Headmaster Ritual" and "I Want the One I Can't Have" are fine elaborations of the formula they laid out on the debut, while "Rusholme Ruffians" is an infectious stab at rockabilly. However, the rest of Meat Is Murder is muddled, repeating lyrical and musical ideas of before without significantly expanding them or offering enough hooks or melodies to make it the equal of The Smiths or Hatful of Hollow.
