Mercury Lounge Questions

I have the standard laundry list of questions about this venue. How is the sound, sight lines, area, nearby hotels, etc?
I assume some forumites have been there and would have the answers. Any comments, insults, or off hand remarks are welcome.

It is great venue:

Great.
sight lines,
Great, its like a 50% of the upstairs at blackcat kinda place, nothing in the way.
area,
Fine, there is or was a weird Indian late night food place across the road and some other bars on the street.
nearby hotels, etc?
Its in Manhattan. A one mile walk will get you to about 1000 hotels.

Fantastic venue. You walk through a crowded, narrow bar to get to the music space in the back. As Markie said, excellent sound and sight lines. Very intimate. No backstage area, so the bands are hanging out before and after. It's surrounded by eating options. Within a block or two of other Lower East Side clubs. Most importantly, they've been booking lots of good British bands.

That's actually the reason I asked. I want to see (the) Editors.

there's a "backstage", but it's not behind the stage, it's down the stairs, directly across from the stage … great place, favorite venue in NYC

So did anyone make it to one of [the] Editors gigs in NY this past weekend? I am muito curious to know how it was (and hoping for a DC date in March when the real tour starts).

Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the show because of a stomach virus. Ugh. Sounds like it was great.

I'm so mad at myself for missing this. If only I had ordered tickets BEFORE going home for Christmas. As bad as I wanted to see Editors, I really wanted to go to Mercury Lounge. This would have been my first time seeing a show in NYC.
Hopefully they will play DC, Baltimore, or Richmond after their UK tour.
