From yesterday's Post:
HERE & NOW
Sunday, July 18, 2004; Page N09
POP MUSIC
EVERYONE WILL BE THERE for the Hives, a quintet of Swedish neo-garage meatballs, but show up early on Tuesday night at the 9:30 club and catch the opening act. The Reigning Sound is led by Greg Cartwright, who reminds you of what's missing from most of the retro rock being made these days: great songs. In a former incarnation, with the much-missed Compulsive Gamblers, Cartwright wrote "Stop and Think It Over," which is one of those ageless tracks that don't seem composed so much as discovered – as if it were always there, waiting to be stumbled over. With the Reigning Sound, Cartwright has channeled the spirit of '50s doo-wop through his vintage amplifiers, to memorable effect on an album called "Time Bomb High School." The band's latest, "Too Much Guitar," draws from more modern inspirations and seems every bit as inspired.

i'll be there…only for the reigning sound. i posted my thoughts on this fantastic band about a month ago in another thread about this show.
i'm leaving after TRS to go to the black cat to see thee snuff project and the ponys. i might stick around for a little bit of sahara hotnight action, but i really don't care for the hives.
too bad these two shows are happening simultaneously.

I'm looking forward to seeing The Reigning Sound. (The Hives actually covered a Compulsive Gamblers song last time they were in town.) And I'm expecting some good, witty lines from Pelle. And a few high kicks as well.
I do wish the Ponys show was a different night. I really, really wanted to see them. Damn.

Hope you have a ticket already! Since there are three bands playing, I'm guessing the first one will begin around 8:15/8:30pm with the Hives going on between 10-10:30pm.
Yeah, I'm not expecting more than an hour from the guys, probably closer to 45 minutes.
Yup, my friend just confirmed. I'm there.

I'll be there (broken arm and all). Despite a band new titanium plate and eight screws in my right arm just above the elbow thanks to the great game of hockey, I'll drive up from Richmond to catch this one. BTW I do have two extra tickets so if you need a pair look for me with my arm in a sling. I usually get there early enough to be near the front of the line. Probably go upstairs to the bar at the back so I can rest the arm if I need to. (Yes I'll be back on the ice soon too!)

I'll be there.
So I've heard good things about Reigning Sound… anyone know if Sahara Hotnights is any good? (Besides being a quartet of hot Swedish babes.)

Sahara Hotnights are pretty good live. I saw them a couple years back when they opened for the Mooney Suzuki at the 9:30. Stellastarr* was also on that bill. Pretty energetic and I remember the lead singer being a near carbon copy of Runaways-era Joan Jett.
I saw a bunch of their promo stuff at Tower. I saw their stickers and picture of four women and I thought they were those four women w/ violins (know who I mean?).

Can't wait to see the show tonight– my friend will be there earlier than i will to get a good spot in line. There may not even be a line but, better safe than sorry. When we saw the Hives at the Black Cat several years ago the line was around the block. The Sahara Hotnights are a great band too, but I forgot to bring my cd to work with me so i guess i can't get it autographed by them. Oh well. I'll totally be there! I'll be one of (the only) black ladies in the audience. If you see me, feel free to say hello. :)

Olsson's has the CD for $12.99. I'm sure it can be found less, but I went for the local chain within a decent walking distance from my office.
Album clocks in at 30:03.

Broken arm and all I made it to the show and back home. Got very lucky and got invited to the sound check party. Chris gave me a drum stick which he autographed for me. Met some new friends and saw a kick ass show. Thanks once more to Eddie and the crew for running such a freaking great club.

yup the show was hot, the crowded exploded when the fab songs from VVV were cranked out and i forgot how many standout tracks there were. for me a great drummer is whats sets a band apart from other bands. and chris dangerous is a monster… pelle seemed a bit less jaggeractive this time out, but still quite the energtic front/show man. rest assured he's lifted some daltrey mic swinging into his stchick.
