If the message is short, she might have just read it via the email that's sent letting her know that you PMed here. That wouldn't register as being "read" but she probably actually read it.

It's kind of hard to notice if you have a PM here… especially if your spam filter inadvertently blocks the alert, or you registered with a no-longer-used addy. I've let PMs sit for months before realizing I had them.
