DC9 "official" opening, free drinks
February 25, 2004 at 07:39 PM UTC
#
According to an email received by
Doctor Doom from the owner of DC9, this Thursday is the official opening for the bar, with a "free drinks" happy hour from 8 - 11 pm.
Drinks before The National??
If you've been keeping up on the board, I love this space. Bless DC9 and the new venue for new music (read the email and you will love these guys…their hearts are in the right place, a la bringing a new venue to DC…)

Yay DC9! I second Bags feeling on the new venue. And I know another of the owners, and they all seem genuine in trying to make it a cool new venue to listen to music. I'm very excited to have it the city.

I received an invite from the proprietor, who used to promote for the Exit Bar. I thought the official opening was last week? No matter, I hope to check it out soon! (Matt Dunn should be spinning his Desperate party on Thursday).

AND Markie, though it will be interesting to see how free drinks affect the "dry during the week" status….

How are you all planning on hitting an 8pm happy hour and the 8:15 The National show?? Any tips? God, I'd love to do both…

I'm not getting to DC9 at 8:00 – I'm going to The National, hitting DC9 when they're off, and getting back to 9:30 for The Walkmen at 10:15… At least, that's my plan as of now.

I've never tried to leave and reenter a 9.30 show before– do they let you? I always fear reentry policies.

So you're missing Weird War? I saw them open for Ted Leo and they're great fun. It's hard to tell if they're being serious or not, but they're really 70's. The singer spends a lot of time philosophizing ("Man, what if, like, time was money and money really was time?") and stops singing in the middle of songs to say "I love this music!" I wouldn't miss 'em…

That's why you get stamped. I've gone in and out, because I've been waiting or looking for friends outside.
If it's not allowed, I'm skippin' DC9. I'll be there plenty, so no worries.

Who went, and what was it like??? I stayed in 9.30 for Weird War, who was in fine form last night.
"I like this music!"
That is, of course, except for those annoying frat boys up front. what the hell was their deal?

I decided to stay and give Weird War another chance. I hated them at the Ted Leo show. I thought they were pretty good last night. I wouldn't go out of my way to see them, but if they're opening for someone, I'd check them out again.

The National were very good, Weird War was great fun, and the Walkmen……oh, *sigh* the Walkmen. I guess it just wasn't their night. I kind of felt bad for them. But not so bad that I felt any compunction about leaving halfway through their set.

When you all speak of "annoying frat boys", how do you know the people you're referring to are in fraternities. Do they all have Greek-lettered sweatshirts on?
And how many fraternity members do you personally know? Do you know enough of them to stereotype every last one of them the way you seem to do?
