Controversy...

And the foo thread comes down. What oh what could have happened over there to bring a whole thread down?
Geez, same old same old.
Was this the same issue we had the stink with the HFS.com folks over??
[PS, I am in no way trying to continue a flaming war, but I think discussing the premise of the argument is valuable, and fun…]

The general premise of journalistic ethics is the same, yes, however the details are different. In the BigYawn/HFS story, a website was reprinting made up rumours (which were created on the HFS board simply to see who would pick up the story) and passing it off as legitimate information they had received through a source without crediting who they had taken it from. In this case, a website was passing on 100% factual information and cited their source. Strangely enough, some people on here tell you situation #1 is fine and dandy, and #2 is abhorrent, but I think they've drank the hipster kool-aid.

Ah, yes. I just forgot…this whole blog thing is an interesting animal. What are the standards, are there any standards, how do bulletin boards fitn the blogosphere, etc.
As to the presale issue, I know I'm over pretty far on one end of this spectrum. I am that odd animal that doesn't forward the email to friends. I will PM someone here who didn't get the email (which is probably a slippery slope, I understand).
These presales are always such cluster%^&@s, so it makes sense to me that you try to keep the passwords as limited as you can, reasonably.
I know this is in fact a probably unreasonable desire, but it's my opinion. I'm a pretty big rule follower. You should see my Myers-Briggs score!

Have you decided whether to laud the appearence since it's Robbie Fulks or bash it incessantly since it's the Today show?

It would probably be more controversial to bash it on the Robbie Fulks board and laud it here, right?

K – "owned" and "not anyone in this thread" – you're being as cryptic as the midget dream sequence from Twin Peaks.

What would make it even juicier is that Fulks posts on his own chatboard. But he's one guy I wouldn't want to get into a battle of wits with. Puts everyone on this board to shame.

The real problem is that presales are hardly presales anymore. Putting elitism aside, when everyone is in on it then it simply becomes a staggered ticket sale.
The same thing happened a few years ago when everyone started to get broadband. More people buying tickets online and less getting screwed by standing in line at Tower Records.
Call it elitism if you like, I call it being clever enough to stay one step ahead.
I wonder what the next step will be? I see more artists going the route of Depeche Mode, who made you pre-order their CD to get a unique password. That's not a bad thing I guess since presales should be for the "diehard fans".

You should get your wife to argue with him, then stick up for her on there, and defend her on here! How iconoclastic you'd be!

I, too, see that happening more often. I know if I really liked an artist, I would pre-buy the album to get better seats when they come around. Hell, Pearl Jam has been getting people to stay on their pay fan club for years for little reason other then priority ticketing.
