Cure Presale

————————————————————————
CURE-ious?

Playing happy synth-pop over melancholy lyrics with a uniquely fashioned frontman, The Cure became one of the most popular bands of the '80s.
The godfathers of Goth will release their much antipicated new album, The Cure, July 29. The fascination continues as The Cure bring their Curiosa Festival 2004 to Merriweather this August.

WHFS 99.1 and I.M.P. Present
Curiosa Festival 2004 featuring
THE CURE
w/ Interpol â?¢ The Rapture â?¢ Mogwai
August 6
Merriweather Post Pavilion â?¢ Columbia, MD

Presale begins Wednesday, May 26 from 10am-10pm.

Regular public on sale Saturday, June 19th @ Noon through Ticketmaster
$75 for seats? no thanks.
as much as i like the cure (seeing 5 shows last tour), i don't think i could justify paying that for the show. that's more expensive than coachella was, with a fraction of the lineup. not to mention i've already seen all the bands i want to see at the festival… play full sets… for a total of less than it would cost to go to this.

i previously was excited about going to some of these shows. i no longer am. i don't know if i'll even go to one now.

i think i'll head to ACL instead.
my thoughts exactly!!! $75 is absurd. I was going to go and now i MAY go, but only to buy lawn tickets because I want to see Muse. And if things stay the way they have been, Muse will be back here in 2007. so I'll pay the 40, and hang at the 2nd stage, and sit on the lawn for Interpol and The Cure.
$75 sucks, really bad. and yes, that was the cost of a Coachella ticket.
Crap Crap Crap. I was REALLY looking forward to this one. Looks like it's gonna be another of those only-if-I-get-in-the-first-few-rows shows. Hopefully the presale will work out.

whats new?
I won't be going to the Cure show, but maybe I'll wear my Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me t-shirt to Beulah.

Me neither…seen them twice already, which is enough. First time was at the old Capital Centre, which was a good show. Second time was at Merriweather which was crap.

Won't be wearing a t-shirt either….and I hope you made your t-shirt yourself Mr. Rhett Miller!

Because I'm not willing to pay $75 to see them from mediocre seats. I'd easily pay that much for a theater show, but I'm not willing to sit in the back of an amphitheater at that price. Besides, I've seen them before. It won't kill me if I miss them.
Aha, I see Skeeter. The willingness to sit in seats up close threw me…sonick, you got that? Yeah, I'm dense, got no problems with that. I think it will be a fun day…I'm not dying to see any of the bands, but am interested to see a bunch of 'em.

Well, that's another thing. I don't really care about any of the other bands. I'm sure I'll check them out if I go, but I'm really looking at this as just another Cure show.
I got the t-shirt back in the 80's…back when you could get a concert t-shirt for 10 bucks. I don't have anything against a 10-15 dollar concert t-shirt, it's the 40 dollar t-shirts that I doth protest.

pre-sale pw:

time for the rat-bastards @ ticketmaster to spank us for another concert…

i expect a lot of people will balk @ $75, especially for a roster of bands most have never heard of.

re: hfstival performance
wtf! all the top 40 hits?! 3/4 of the peeps left after offspring … and every time they played something off of the new cd, MORE people got up & left(?)
robert kind'a looks like burl ives now - playing his acoustic guitar on top of that big hairy belly!

Is this $75 an estimated amount or the actual price?? if it's Merriweather they will charge an extra 10 for parking plus other service charges…we could be looking at a $90 ticket or more…

I'm sure someone could tell us what a $10 t-shirt in the 80's would be the equivilent of now……GGW????
I think I posted this before:

http://inflationdata.com/inflation/inflation_rate/InflationCalculator.asp

Inflation between May, 1987 (about the time I bought the t-shirt) to April, 2004=66.22%

Thus, that $10 t-shirt should go for $16.62 now.

The link for the presale says tickets are $40-75. That means even a lawn ticket will probably cost about $50 with the service fees.
Actually - here's what the web page says:

GENERAL ADMISSION FLOOR $75.00
MAIN PAVILION SEATING $60.00
LOGE PAVILION SEATING $60.00
GENERAL ADMISSION LAWN $40.00

GA/FLOOR? Is that the pit?
Question – even for the Cure alone, did anyone think tickets would be less than $40?
No - but I was expecting somewhere around $50. $75 was a bit of a shock. $60 isn't too bad though.
