so I just finished watching this movie for the first time, and while I'm a chronic hyperbole machine when it comes to movies, this has to rank in my top 10 comedies of all time
I've seen maybe a dozen episodes of the TV series and I can't believe how shitty it now seems after seeing the movie, how about this:
M*A*S*H the movie : Radiohead :: M*A*S*H the series : Snow Patrol

Really? I find that very surprising. To the rest of you who haven't seen it - do. The movie is FAR superior to the television show.

MASH, the movie, is overated hippie twaddle. A thinly veiled Vietnam protest movie. Yeah, I'm sure there was a lot of dope smoking going on during the Korean war. Fuck the so called counter-culture anyway! Fuck baby boomers! And while we are at it, fuck 'Generation X' too!

I havent seen MASH, but I did see Nashville this weekend, and that is a great great movie, not just because of the Altman style, but also because the music's really good, it even won an Oscar for Best Song.
Now, half the time Robert Altman is laughing about the country-southern culture thing…but anyway, totally recommended as well…

Nashville is f-ing brilliant.
I wrote a paper on it for a film class comparing it to "birth of a nation".

yeah, it was one of those that had slipped through the cracks for me … i was surprised at how much i laughed out loud with noone else around … it was really really really really funny
i'm guessing it probably says a lot about a person if they prefer the tv show to the movie, eh?

donald sutherland (and elliott gould) spent the whole shoot for MASH trying to get altman fired
the director's commentary on MASH was one of the most boring things ever (at least 10 minutes of dead space at a time), but that was interesting

California Split was better, IMHO.
