Is anyone going to THE SLICKEE BOYS?

Well..?
Yep. Both here and in Baltimore.

Rustbuckit is opening at 9:30. Should be a great show.
Where are they playing in Baltimore?

i'm seriously considering it. the late-show-on-a-sunday is kinda annoying tho. TBD. dupek, are you planning on going? i don't mean to sound flippant - because i'm not, in all seriousness - but that would be cool. i don't remember ever reading about you attending a show at the club, then again i'm relatively new here.
I'll go, if you'll meet up with me for a pre-show drink.

It's Memorial Day weekend, if that makes a difference.
Even that it is Memorial Day weekend, the Metro does not run late on Sunday. This kinds sucks.

duh. thanks for the reminder. yeah, totally makes a difference. and i walk to the club, so metro isn't a concern for me. looks like i'm in. i've heard of the slickees forevah, but have never seen them perform (not that they do so very often any more). by all accounts, their shows are wild… can't wait to see for myself.
I should be there.

I don't know if I'd say "wild", but they're definitely tons of fun.

They are too middle aged to be wild. They are the Slickee Men now. There's a chronic shortage of Slickee vids, IMHO.

what makes you think i know nothing about them? definitely not alot, but some. i've owned several of their tracks on various comps and mix tapes. i've read about them (some punk music mag described them as "wild", back in the day… maybe their middle age has mellowed them out). i know enough about them to want to see them, at least once. this happens to be the first time they're playing the club on a date that i'm in town.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the music. Because they really rawk in an eighties hair metal sort of way!

Is this some of that legendary inscrutable Dupek humor? Because I never would have imagined using "eighties hair metal" to describe the Slickees. Eighties yes, and Kim Kane's got quite a mane on him, but hair metal?

Anyhow… if you're ever at a show I'm at I will buy you a drink, sport.

It's the death/dearth of sarcasm, sport.

I always think of the film 52 Pick-Up whenever you say 'sport', btw.

Just out of curiosity Doom, do you ever deny anything just for the sheer thrill of it?

People aren't supposed to deny history. But I want to. Not because I honestly believe the official version of most historic events are an unimpeachable matter of record & fact(that's a given), but for the reason that we, as a people, are told not to do it. If someone says don't do it, it makes it more desirable, even sexy.

In Europe there are holocaust deniers. But they are really revanchists. So it's already blase. And in America you can say what you wish, whether or not you actually believe it, and risk no governmental penalty.

I am going to deny the slave trade in America happened. Not because I do not believe it happened. Or because of a personal racial motive. I am going to deny it just for the hell of it. Because I am not supposed to.

For example: Many people today deny that avoiding military service during the Vietnam war was unpatriotic. Yet there are no official calls for revanch. I wonder why? Could those cowardly traitorous liars be hiding something?!? Now that some of them wield significant political power they are repeating this treason in the terror war. And the sad truth is that they truly believe in what they are doing, their cause. They aren't in it for the sexy rush.

Now remember…I don't really believe in what I am about to state below. But I state it because you are not supposed to do it owing to one's virtually certain ostracization from current politic society. That's why you should do it. As a form of legitimate rebellion.

Here goes:

The American slave trade never happened. It is a myth perpetuated by the Marxist left for their own agenda.

Do you get it?
You know, Dupek, if I'm looking for a cheap thrill I'll listen to Guns n Roses, grab a random girl's ass, or download porn… if denying slavery for kicks is what floats your boat, then more power to ya!
