Miss South Carolina is hella dumb!

In case you missed the today show. I personally believe again....

Football aside, it's actually not a bad University at all. I'd say it's probably near the top 50 of Master's Granting institutions in America. And at the price for in state tuition, tough to beat if your a Carolinan.

WTF? Why is there a need to try and make her feel better or vindicated, and those morning show assholes are just a cheering squad and apologists.

It's really ok to be stupid, not against the law here in the good ole us of a, you can even be president.

I swear I'm going to sound like a broken record, but we are so fascinated with cute blonde white girls, if they go missing it's a national scandal and we must stop EVERYTHING and talk incessantly about it, if they go to jail it's front page and top of the news hour for days, if they leave jail early it's even a bigger topic, and heaven help us if they look like idiots on national TV then we have to make sure they're booked on the morning show circuit so we can get to the bottom of it.

Again, WTF are we worried about losing to the terrorists?

playing deveil's advocate here: so, do you believe that if a black, asian, latina, or other flavor of non-white contestant made the same bumbling statement, it wouldn't be as funny/painful/pathetic/popular? that people wouldn't be watching it on youtube, that she wouldn't be on the Today show, etc?

i personally believe that the performance given by miss SC stands on its own, regardless of skin or hair color.

our maps?

oh, wait, on that account they've already won…
I actually had the same thought this morning. I think certainly much fewer white people would be making fun of her.

That's the way I read it. If that was not the case, then my mistake, and I offer my apology to Miss P.

So you didn't go there, you didn't even watch the video, don't even know where it is, yet still felt compelled to call Miss P's comments condescending? OK.

great clip! i <3 billy madison.
Appalachian State University, located in Boone, NC, is part of the University of North Carolina system. I cringed (as I imagine other North Carolinians did) when I read that that's where Miss Teen SC is going.

I remember some not-particularly-bright people from my high school who couldn't get into UNC-Chapel Hill going to Appalachian State. However, in ASU's defense, I think it was also supposed to have a smaller student population, more friendly atmosphere, etc.

So… hardly a top-tier school, but it imagine it has its merits. I'm not sure where it stands in prestige rankings vs. other non-flagship UNC-system schools. (UNC-Chapel Hill is the flagship and N.C. State would be second, but I'm not sure how ASU rates against UNC-Asheville, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Greensboro, etc.)

I didn't see the contest, but I'd wager there were less than a handful of contestants that weren't cute blonde white girls, but that wasn't my point.

Anyone looking that stupid would have been ridiculed, but I was talking about the larger fascination about this demographic that permeates nearly everything, and the absolute indisputable fact that if ANYTHING good or bad happens to a cute blonde white girl, it is "NEWS." And we are going to see, hear, and read about it ad naseum.

And perhaps you Canadians don't get it :p

Would any journalists out there care to opine?

maybe it has something to do with journalism being a 'man's' career? with a vast number of higher-ups on the business being rich, old, white men that could have something to do with it…

Is she allowed to list that on her resume? And I think that should be "ho's" not "hoes," somebody needs to work on their grammar.
My wife was going through a stack of cover letters for an entry level bachelors degree requiring position a couple of years ago, many similiar to this in quality.

i think that would be grammatically correct if they are talking about this-

Oh, so you're playing the "cute, white blonde" card are you?

Recent history has shown that cute, white blonde women are not necessarily favored over other women with different hair and/or skin color.

Let's see…

1.) The Cardigans made some great records. Everyone only remembers them for "Love Fool."

2.) Alanis Morrisette sold more records than Jewel.

3.) Very few of the big, bankable Hollywood celebrity actresses are blonde. Julia Roberts, Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, etc. Reese Witherspoon is blonde. Ummm…Legally blonde.

4.) There have been more brunettes than blondes on the cover of US Maxim.

5.) Most famous successful female athletes aren't blonde: Williams sisters, Mia Hamm, most WNBA players. Exception, Lauren Jackson.

So, I think you can't see the forest for the highlights.

Brian
i believe she was going for this…
