Pete Doherty To Face Drug Charges

Pete Doherty To Face Drug Charges

Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty, best known for his on-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, has been charged with possession of cocaine and heroin, British police said today (Jan. 10). The 26-year-old rock star, a self-confessed drug abuser, is due to appear in court in London tomorrow.

Doherty, who shot to fame as lead singer of the Libertines, was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs last November.

He has been in the headlines since Moss was filmed apparently snorting cocaine, prompting several fashion labels to sever ties with the model. Still images from the footage appeared in the Daily Mirror tabloid last September.

Police have urged Moss to return from the United States to answer questions related to the cocaine scandal, and say they are closing in on other suspects in the case. Media reports say Doherty and Moss have split up.
Holy moly no way!! You just KNOW 2006 is gonna be one whacky year.
Can we please make this board a Doherty free zone please? We get bombarded with him in every shagging newspaper over here.

Interesting…….Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty, best known for his on-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss,…..and not best known for his musical genius.
Pete Doherty: Guilty plea on drugs charges

Babyshambles man admits possession
Pete Doherty has pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cocaine.

At a hearing at Ealing Magistrates' Court this morning, the Babyshambles singer admitted the charges. He has been given unconditional bail, and has to return to court on February 8.

The charges stem from an incident in November last year, when he was stopped by police while driving. In court, prosecutors said that Doherty was found to have three wraps of heroin, with a weight of 0.875gm, and a packet of cocaine weighing 0.234 grams.

His solicitor was forced to apologise after Doherty was more than an hour late for his scheduled appearance.

From court, Doherty was expected to travel from London to Stoke On Trent for a show this evening as part of a short UK tour.

The band are playing as a three-piece on these dates following the departure of guitarist Pat Walden.
I wish that this guy would just do the world a favor and OD. I get so sick of hearing about his escapades. He's pathetic.
and the worst of it is he'll spawn dozens of copy catters who will think doing drugs and acting pathetic is the way to get noticed as a musician… of course once that behavior is considered passe by the press, whats going to acceptable for the them to cover? thuggery, trafficking..
All Doherty is doing is taking Sid Vicious to another level. It's been done before, it's pathetic and stupid but at least Sid has the decency to OD and be done with it. Doherty should follow that example. Idiot.
I'm not familiar with the British justice system, but how does he still walk the streets a free man? How many times has he been arrested/convicted?
Babyshambles gig no-show

Pete Doherty fails to turn up yet again
Pete Doherty failed to appear at Babyshambles show in Stoke last night (January 11).

Doherty was due to play at the Underground venue after making an appearance in court in London earlier the same day.

In the morning he'd appeared at Ealing Magistrates' Court, where he pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cocaine.

One fan at the show explained to NME.COM: "When we got to the place, the atmosphere was electric, such a good place to see a gig! The supports came on and the atmosphere was really starting to build up.

"After fully expecting Babyshambles to be on at 10pm, it then went an hour before we heard anything at all, being told that he was 'in a car' and 'on his way'. Of course, knowing the man, we thought it was in typical Pete fashion that he was running late and that he would be there to tear the place up.

"(Band collaborator) The General then made an appearance. People's hopes then started to pick up again, with the rest of Babyshambles coming out with The General to play a few songs. After five minutes of the General leaving the stage, officials informed us of Pete's absence for the night."

A spokesperson for the band is currently unavailable to explain the no-show.

The date was the third planned gig this week, following dates in London and Sheffield earlier in the week. All have been without guitarist Patrick Walden, who walked out before Christmas.

Doherty is due in court again on February 8 for sentencing.

The charges stem from an incident in November last year, when he was stopped by police while driving. In court, prosecutors said that Doherty was found to have three wraps of heroin, with a weight of 0.875gm, and a packet of cocaine weighing 0.234 grams.

LOLOLOL

This is the best part:
"Police said Doherty pulled over even though police were actually trying to flag down another driver, PA reported."
This guy's right up there with Scott Weiland as one of the most inept dope fiends ever. Seems he can't even cross the street without getting busted.
Re-Pete
"pleaded guilty Friday to possession of heroin, crack cocaine, morphine and marijuana."

Dang…party time!
At this rate he'll be dead soon anyway. Then we can go back to speculating how long it will take Scott Weiland to OD.

Here's a list of drug fiends that are surprisingly still alive. Feel free to add to my list (this is just a starter):

1) Keith Richards
2) Ozzy Osbourne
3) Iggy Pop
4) Eric Clapton
5) Steve Nicks/Mick Fleetwood/the rest of Fleetwood Blow
6) Richard Hell
7) John Frusciante
8) Nikki Sixx
9) Jimmy Chamberlin
10) Scott Ashton (Stooges)
11) Blackie Onasis (Urge Overkill)
12) Kelly Deal (Breeders)

Any other famous rockers who have OD'ed or battled drugs publicly again and again? Let's rack 'em up.

Yeah…you're right. I was just numbering them in the order I was thinking of. Apparently D'Arcy from the Pumpkins is a big drug fiend nowadays and Jimmy is clean. But back in the day he was quite the smackhead.
