Rufus Wainwright & Hanson Rollcalls

Two rollcalls for the price of one! With moi being the DJ for both shows.

So anyone attending either show planning on going in costume? Wouldn't want to show up being the only one wearing one… I'll be the one dressed as a DJ ;) Or perhaps as in the past wear a homemade Beatles t-shirt and go as Glen Matlock. I'd go as Sir Christopher Wren but the wig is in the shop. Maybe even go as the real Kosmo Vinyl.

Funny story…Got an email from some bird in the UK wondering if I was the same Kosmo Vinyl that drank in such and such pub in 84/85. I politely said no, however I can guess what Mank's answer would have been ;)

Back to whats at hand… Seeing as it's Halloween think I might give the fans a real scare by letting flawd guest DJ whatever he's listening to these days. Death Metal?

nah… for Hanson i might bust out some guilty pleasures like Robbie Williams, Spice Girls and George Micheal. And how often does one get the chance to do the time warp again…

rufus means that i can spin the Twinkle's orginial version of "Golden Lights" and the Rhino Girl Group boxset is in heavy rotation at the moment. Anyone know that Toni Basil, yes that Toni Basil, released a single in 1966 called "I'm 28"?

screamin jay hawkins- i put a spell on you (i know cheesy, but if you there, might as well also go with some alice cooper)

course, you could also just play the entire oeuvre of helloween.

also, i like that idea to play "time warp" before hanson.

I think this will be a hilarious show to DJ…think about the transition from songs for the OK Go crowd to songs for the Rufus crowd. I was thinking about that last night when I found out you're DJing. Do you transition halfway between the two bands, does Rufus get more attention because he's the headliner, blah blah.

I will be at the show, in costume as an OK Go fan from 2 years ago (in comparison to a new fan who saw their video online and caught them on Good Morning America and thinks they're so funny and cute…). Don't know how much of Rufus I'll stay for, but some. Which means, K, that I'll be hearing much more of your set than I usually do!

How different will an OK Go crowd and a Rufus Wainright crowd really be?

It's not like we're talking about Merle Haggard or Luis Miguel playing with Rufus Wainright.

would have to say that part of the OkGo crowd will be younger and female into energetic pop songs, while the Rufus crowd will be a mixed older crowd, with a gay contigent which like more sophisticated pop… any certainly there will be fans of both bands there. it's also possible the OkGo crowd got scared away by the ticket price too.

needless to say i usually try to save my top shelf stuff for between bands which will be along the lines of Cardinal, Magic Numbers, John Hoskinson, and keep the fun stuff for from when doors open.

Absolutely…I have friends not coming (not even young girls!) because of the price tag. It's a crime…OK Go better come back on their own.

What can I say, I'm an old chick into the energetic pop. The inconsistencies are just going to get worse the older I get. Though give me David Sylvian or Duncan Sheik anyday…(Rufus' voice annoys me).

Excellent choices, imho. ;)

With there being a bit of a Gay contingent and it being Halloween, bringing out their wild sides, I think that I would also add

Soft Cell - Sex Dwarf

and sneak in some fun Glam such as

New York Dolls - maybe Personality Crisis

Also, for the still into younger cartoons set for the 1st time around, I'd definitely include

Gorillaz - (whatever)

and maybe some

Puffy Yumi Ami or whatever they are called, for that schoolgirl Anime(sp?) touch.
