I keep hearing they're going to play at 9:30 some time soon - just wondering if anyone knew whether and when, since it's not on the front page.

Well, I didn't think Arcade Fire would sell out in a few days, so I'm going for these tickets Friday morning…better safe than sorry.

what does sexiness determine about a show?
if you go to kcrw.com, you can see their Morning Becomes Eclectic performance from last week on realvideo. its not the same lineup that will be touring though, neither neko nor dan bejar (destroyer) were present. carl's niece fills in for neko, the drummer does dan's vocals. the fall tour will have both neko and dan, which is apparently a rare and possibly one-time occasion.

I was at their Canada Day show in NYC (oh the irony) with Stars and The Sadies (the same show the golfer was at I think). Of the three bands the NPs put on the least inspiring set. I am willing to chalk it up to the fact that they had to play after Stars (and Torvile's manic stage antics) and that they were without the services of Ms. Case. If the new record is as good as people say it should be worth going to the show, but don't expect a great stage show.
from torr - yay for the New Pornos! - having it for 9.99 at Best Buy probably didn't hurt either
The New Pornographers reach a new chart and sales peak as Twin Cinema opens at #44 on the billboard charts with 19,000 copies sold. The group's last outing, 2003's Electric Version, spent one week at #196. While commercial terrestrial radio isn't playing the band, Sirius Satellite Radio's Left of Center channel has a pair of tracks in rotation. "Use It" ranked third on the channel's playlist for the week with 33 spins, while the album's title track earned 15 plays.

I saw 'em a couple years ago at Black Cat on the Electric Version tour. They were awesome. It's a huge band to fit on that little stage, but they had a good time of it.
One thing to know, though, is that their albums are quite studio-produced, so the live sounds are markedly different. It's a different sound mix, some different instruments, several parts dropped out. I liked it better live, but if you're into that slick poppy stuff, you may not like it as much.

I think it will sell out. There's sort of a vacuum right now of the obvious sell-out shows, like something in the Interpol, Arcade Fire or Spoon league. Plus the new album is getting good press, and it's a show that anyone can enjoy.
Is Neko for sure playing on this tour? I haven't read definitively that she is. That would be a treat. Having Destroyer as the opener is great because A) they're really good, and B) that means Dan Bejar will be playing with the band.
I thought their Black Cat show was great. They did a great version of Cruel to Be Kind as the encore, which is the only cool way to do an encore.

from an interview at the end of june:
"This [fall] tour is going to be crazy," says a wide-eyed Newman. "It'll be the first time in four years that it will be Dan and Neko in the Pornographers. I think it will be pretty cool.
"When itâ??s Neko and Kathryn, we have the double barrel of amazing female singers and we're gonna have Dan and we're gonna have me and Kurt [Dahle, from Limblifter] and Todd [Fancy], we can have six good people singing, which is hard to find."
I read another interview where A.C. Newman said that the band lineup for the fall tour is basically his dream lineup for the New Pornographers. I think it's going to be a really good show.
