Why does it always rain on me?

I thought the show was good…not phenomenal, but solid. The highlights for me were definitely "As You Are", "Driftwood", and "All I Wanna Do Is Rock". I was really surprised they only did 3 songs off The Invisible Band…thought that they would at least do "Pipe Dreams". And Poorlulu and I agreed that it would have been really nice to hear stuff like "Tied to the 90's", "Good Feeling" and even "Happy". I also love "U16 Girls", but I suppose they can't play EVERYTHING. However, if they had squeezed in an extra 15 minutes they could have thrown in a couple more oldies. Some of the new stuff is good, but some of it is just a bit too morose for me…I love it when Travis just rocks out and has fun. But they are truly some of the nicest people, especially Dougie. He commented on my Red House Painters t-shirt and we got into a discussion about them. He's a heck of a nice guy. All in all, a VERY fun evening.
great show! i had a good time despite the four car pileup i was involved in on rte 66 on my way into the show. a travis show always makes me happy no matter what is going on.
In the past they'd always done a cool cover during the encore, too. "Baby One More Time", "The Weight", "All The Young Dudes"…

A few too many tunes off the new record (which hasn't really sunk in with me yet), but I guess that's to be expected.

P.S. I didn't think Rooney was that bad….
I was outside the club waiting for Lily to show up when I heard them go on. At first I thought, "hmmm…they sound pretty tight, write catchy songs…sound a little like ELO maybe." Then when I went in and saw them, I thought they took too many bad fashion suggestions from Journey, REO Speedwagon, and Loverboy. I felt kind of sorry for them actually. And then I thought of the band Jellyfish…retro, late 60's/early 70's-influenced rockers from the early 90's. Anyone remember them? And I thought, "well, if it didn't work for them, I don't think it will work for Rooney". Not that Rooney can't play…they can. But I didn't care much for them at all.
i was not impressed with rooney…their hair annoyed me more than anything else

If anybody sees Dave Grohl getting ready to play the drums tonight at the Killing Joke, please light up the grohl signal and I will make it down to the show, thanks.
so did grohl show up last night? as i said to kosmette after flaking out from going to show, that he was sure to show up.
It was a Grohl-less evening.

But "Dancing Man" was there. Anybody know this guy? He's older and slim with really short hair. He jumps around frenetically, claps his hands and yells very loudly. I've seen him at a few other shows, most recently BRMC (I think) where he was shirtless.

Killing Joke were solid, although they seemed to be in a shitty mood. Jaz is beginning to look like Ozzy; Geordie plays effortlessly; and the dude on the drums is excellent. Played a lot of the old stuff – Wardance, Kings and Queens, Follow the Leader, Whiteout – and some of the new stuff. They didn't play an encore.

i don't think that Jellyfish fashion sense is what did them in… they were a great group that broke up before they could reach their full potential. their boxset of demoes and live tracks is killer. Jellyfish's 60's influence fashion were probably meant to a personally ironic statement at the start of the 90's. Rooney's style was probably picked out by a stylist.

I wasn't too hopeful re: Rooney (I didn't go to the show, just commenting on Rooney). A couple months back there was a live concert with Rooney on MTV2 and at the same time they were on some show on MTV as well – it was kinda weird, and I wasn't impressed. With either show.

Oh, it did work for Jellyfish, it did! That is a fabulous band, they top most of my lists. The whole 60s drug trippy flower child thing was a bit much, but the albums are fantastic.

Sorry, *had* to interject. I also have a great jellyfish story – I saw them back in the day at the old 9:30 Club. All love and hippies and flowers. They had these plastic tubes that shot flowers into the audience. Well, that's one of the two times in my life I thought I was gonna get punched. One of those goddamn concert-goers who is not used to a crowded show and gets all belly-achy about the crowd. I was being pushed around, and he went off on my that he'd been standing there, that was his spot, on and on. I *really* thought he was gonna punch me, especially after I handed him a daisy.
;)

I hope she wasn't one of the people who screamed "f*ck you!" at us while they drove by (seriously, what does that accomplish?)

yeah, this little woman driving an F150 apparantly hit her gas instead of her break causing the whole deal. I'm fine, my car will need some work (front/back)…more of a pain in the ass than anything else

This is so mean of me, and I'm sorry, but THANK
GOD. To think I missed Grohl just a couple neighborhoods away would have plagued me for weeks. Just watched their DVD single with foru videos. Man I love that band (and Grohl).

The boxset is that good? I'm a big fan, but don't usually do boxsets, demos, etc., not even of my favorites. But their catalog is so small, that maybe I should get on this one.

Kosmo, is there any music I like that you *don't* know about? :p
death metal
Rats.. rats.. rats.. Sounds like Travis was good last night. Oh well, you can't catch them all.

It WAS NOT a Grohl-less evening!! I ran into Mr. Grohl and posse between the opener and Killing Joke. I literally ran into him! I was getting a stout at the bar and turned around and almost spilled my brew on the smallish, tattooed one.He said he was checking the show and he wasn't going to play. He didn't.I was standing next to that crazy old dancing guy for quite a while last night.
