Here's a thought, DON'T DRIVE! Its totally metro accessable, or busable or walkable. And don't leave crap in your car…yes swiffers are hot commodity on the black market these days. If I'd had seen it I would have definitely thought twice about trading your swiffer in for some crack.

Been to MANY shows. A vast majority of the time we park in the alley leading to the lot. In some instances we will park in the lot. NEVER had an issue. Sorry for what went down with your car. Four times seems a lot to be all by chance. Not sure what to tell you other than maybe try parking in a different place. The alley (or whatever street it is) that leads to the lot has always been safe for us.

not to pull out the sheltered suburbanite dis, but this isn't 1991 … i never feel unsafe walking around the 930 club, that area is perfectly fine, especially compared to other parts of our fine city.
luckily, i live in adams morgan, don't own a car, and couldn't be happier. i heard the grog and tankard has really cool bands, and glover park is squeeeeaky clean.

I don't think it's a particularly unsafe area, certainly not as bad as parts of SE. Car breaks ins are a risk of urban life. They can happen anywhere, even in what some people consider safe, upscale, neighborhoods. My friend's car was broken into on 19th near S, which most people would consider safer than the area around the 9:30 Club. Obviously, the risk is greater later at night when shows take place when less people are around. I never drive anywhere at night. I always take Metro or a taxi.

we're not delineating between *property* damage and personal harm.
Might your stuff get stolen? Yes. But you weren't hurt. Your stuff is replaceable, you're not. There's a good chance your stuff might get stolen, but the chances of you being hurt are about zero in the U Street corridor these days. And that's a good thing.
All I can say is, if you really need my stuff, take it. But when folks start getting hurt, that's reason for concern.

I live in Arlington / Rosslyn and I ALWAYS take a taxi . I call it " cabbing and tabbing."
That takes care of many issues…no car, no drunk driving, no parking, no hassles. It's ALWAYS worth the extra money.

But nowhere is safe, I mean the waiter from Annies got killed near Dupont Circle only a few weeks back. Someone was shot on 14th an W last week.
The tape adaptor in the car is a signal to theives that the glove box might contain a nice new CD player or something better. It is stupid to leave anything that even hints at monetry value in plain site if you leave your car on the street, anywhere.
I've been attending shows at 9:30 on a regular basis now for the past six years. On my first few visits there, I was a bit tentative about my surroundings since everything in that vicinity was new to me. However, now that I am used to going to the club, I really don't have any problems. I've never had my car broken into or any damage at all done to my car. Normally what I do is any cd's or anything else that could be considered valuable, I stash under my seats. The only thing that sticks out is the sun shield for my windshield that stays rolled up in my backseat.
Now I do have to admit, that I did get a little freaked out when I left the club early Sat. morning and 8th and V were taped off with patrol cars there for whatever happened. That was the first time in six years that I was a little uneasy about being around there.
No matter what, there really isn't any place safe these days. And it's been like that far before 9/11 (before anyone hits that tangent). You have to watch what you do, and do the best you can to enjoy life. Anything can happen, anywhere, from the burbs, to the country, to the city. It doesn't matter.

I find the area around the club safe and getting safer. I always park on the 8th street.

You fools! Have you forgotten the enticement of the Swiffer? Yes the neighborhoods not good, no neighborhood in dc is…i've seen several broken windows in georgetown too. The bottom line is, if I need your swiffer, I'm takin' that shit, and if I have to get into you car to do it, be that in georgetown, SE or the U street corridor, then with god as my witness, I WILL! And then I will have a dust free home. And you will be ridden with the mites of hell and sneeze uncontrolably.
