bands that ought to be covered more?
The Monkees. Quite a few of those songs were great…

I'm pretty sure I have a Minor Threat album with them covering that one.

Yes, you probably do. Them and the Sex Pistols covered it. I've got a version of a young Rollins singing it as well.

Stepping Stone was a staple for all the punk bands, Sex Pistols covered it even.
Pop Will Eat Itself
Happy Flowers
Low (speed all those songs up!)

Shrek and Donkey covered that one…."when I saw her face, now I'm a believer"
I'm not saying they 'should' be, but I thought the Smiths would've been covered much more than they are.

Not sure I'd like people doing Smiths covers, although if Kirsty MacCall were alive she would do a nice job on them. Marti Jones could do a Smiths cover some serious justice.
Other artists which could be covered more often, The Pretenders, Big Star, Replacements, Green Day…
Great artists who should be covered more often:
REM
Sublime
Gram Parsons
John Fogerty
Soundgarden
David Bowie
I am always disappointed by Prince covers.
Great call on The Mats and Green Day.

Bowie would be very hard to cover as Bauhaus and Nirvana demonstrated.
Lulu did a good version of Man who sold the world though.

Then Lulu did a better job of that song than Rhett Miller did.
Jordis also covered that song on INXS:Rock Star.

ummmm, nirvana's bowie cover was part of one of the best live performances in history. I would probably give up every concert that I have ever seen to be at that show.
dunno about get up kids. they were never my bag.
