Mark Lanegan to join Twilight Singers tour in New Orleans-

Frequent collaborator, Mark Lanegan, will join the Twilight Singers tour on June 7 in New Orleans. The show at One Eyed Jack's will also feature Ani DiFranco and will be filmed by Rio Hackford (son of Taylor) for a DVD release. Don't miss this once in a blue moon experience.

Lanegan(Screaming Trees/QOTSA) will accompany the band thru the final 2 weeks
of the tour.

Just saw that & was coming to post.

WOW…2 of my favs together. Gonna be a good night
Now that PJ is over - here's a chance to see maybe the second best touring band out there:
Dulli & his dark knights.

Be there.
How was last night's show?

<oldman>Really fucking loud. I had ear plugs, and it was too loud.</oldman> The vocals kept clipping. Might have been a bad microphone? It was actually kind of painful. Anyway, everyone's levels should have been reduced by 20%. One of the worst sounding concerts I've been to at the 9:30, and it really hampered my enjoyment of the show, especially at the beginning of the Twilight Singers' set. I can only guess that the sound engineer was intentionally trying to reproduce the sound of a really big arena show, but it didn't work. Maybe if the microphones and speakers they brought were up to the task, it would have been all right, but they weren't. Dulli's vocals had too much delay/echo. The whole thing just sounded muddy. I actually considered leaving about a half hour into the Twilight Singers' set. Oh, and Dulli smokes like a chimney, and most of his fans do too, rather annoyingly. Not a particularly enjoyable show. I'm sure I'll get flamed for writing that. That said, there were moments during the show that just transcended all of the annoyance. By the encore, I was enjoying myself enough and was glad I stayed. I particularly liked the way he'd start playing a cover song and then segue into one of his own songs.

Both Jeff Klein and After Hours were really good though, but in completely different ways. I enjoyed both of their sets very much.
I got there about 10 minutes before Twilight Singers so can't comment on After Hours or Jeff Klein although people said Jeff Klein was great

I didn't think it was overpoweringly loud although I was wearing earplugs - I did think the overall sound quality could be better

Dulli has put on a LOT of weight and his voice sounded a little shot

Darth Ed is right, there were some transcendant moments during the show and by the end people were begging for more - hearing Fountain and Fairfax again live was a personal highlight for me

Thats the problem though…..while I'll always love Dulli and like most of the Twilights output (with the exception of the new album which isn't grabbing me at all)….they'll never ever match the Whigs imho

great to finally meet grotty, mrs grotty and friends o' grotty…..thanks for the libations
The show was amazing. I love this band. The sound was ok from the balcony. It sounded a lot better than the Yeah Yeah Yeahs show which was the last show I went to at 9:30. YYY made me wanna leave. Twilight made me want to PARTAY! I was so happy they played Cigarettes. That song just kicks ass.
fuckin outstanding, i havent jumped around/danced at a show for a long time….
faded for final song was incredibly inspiring
Glad you guys liked Jeff Klein as well. Hope he comes back soon!
Anyone have a setlist from the DC show? Was a great set.
It was most excellent. I could prolly list the songs but not in any kind of order. There was one song early in the set I didn't recognize though from any of the albums. Any idea what that was? It was a slow one.
Check out this journal log from Scott Ford (the bassist):

I gotta tell you, D.C. remains one of our favorite places to play in the world. When Greg says they are the best audience in the country, he's not kidding. You guys lifted us up and made us play our hearts out. We thank you for that, and you know that we'll be back.

Thank you to all of the friends we made that hung out after and got drunk with us at the bar across the street, you guys know more shit about me than I do, bravo on the research.

Great to have a bev with you Brennser. I hope I was not misbehaving too badly.

DC9 was much fun after the show. The entire touring party was there - minus Mr. Dulli.

I expected much more from After Hours. They were borderline Spinal Tap for me - sans the irony. The singer has this awful habit of spitting straight up. Now that's a concert souvenir to wear home.

Jeff Klein was very good - fav moment: he opened with Pity & changed some lyrics: after "you could never leave", he added "or I'll break every fucking bone in your body." A nice tone setter.

Fountain & Fairfax during the Twilight set was also a highlight for me. Also liked that they threw in a Whigs tune very early in the set & that they didn't spend a large portion of the night just pimping the new record.

I thought the sound was OK. Violently loud during After Hours. The guy @ the merch table warned us. Told us the soundcheck was the loudest he'd heard there. But I actually took my plugs out during Twilight.

Greg D is one of the best frontmen in rock n roll. Even with the gut.

Eww, thanks for the head's up. I'll stay towards the back of the Doug Fir during their sets.

And I love that poster. It's just perfect.
Dulli talks to The Independent
They played a Twilight Singers track at the end of Rescue Me last week, which BTW, has been awesome this season!

I assume "Bonnie Brae" from the Soundtrack ?
(Oh, and every season is good! :) Haven't seen Season 3 yet…)
The first show in Portland last night was fuckin' great. Fortunately, Manuel from Afterhours didn't spit on anyone. Greg joined them on a couple of songs sung in their native tongue. I can see Grotty's "Spinal Tap" perspective of the band, but I thought they were pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing them again tonight.

Greg gave his all to the crowd last night. During "Candy Cane Crawl," he dropped down on his knees and really worked that song. That's one thing I love about the guy, you may like a song on record, but once you hear it live, you love it.

Lanegan came out for a handful of songs, mostly during the encore. For those who also saw him with QOTSA, it was similar to that where he just walked on, gripped the mic stand, sang, and walked off.

Dulli did his take on GB's "Crazy," but no full-length Whigs songs. He did a verse from "When We Two Parted" and a lot of folks in the audience sang along. It's great to be among fans who still remember the lyrics to an album released over 10 years ago. :D

Yeah, the second night was insane. It was everything great about the first night x 50. :D So fun seeing Dulli behind the drumkit again.

During "Let's Get It On," Dulli brought up a young hottie from the audience to dance with him.

Hearing "66" made the crowd, or at least those in the first couple of rows, go batshit. Everyone was dancing their asses off.

People started showing up earlier for Friday's show. By the time Afterhours hit the stage, it was pretty packed.

It took a long time for me to fall asleep after Friday's show. I hope when they tour in the fall, TS returns to Portland for two nights again!
