Thoughts on OK Go 10/31/05

GREAT set from the boys, even with Damien sick and doing his best to stay in full voice (I wondered at first if the mics were down, but then realized it was his illness, not the mix).
Gotta say the gay couples around me ditched their spooning to dance a bit to OK Go. I still think it was a slightly incongruous match, but what the hell. Bring the people together. And I left before Rufus went on (as did several folks, I noticed) – not in protest, but I had work early this a.m. and was too stressed to stay just to check Rufus out. So I can't speak to the Rufus crowd once he started, though some of my posse of 50 were there…
Generally, I thought OK Go 'brought it' and made some fans. And they certainly had quite a contingent of fans there already, with lots of singing along. And, of course, the peels of laughter and screeching I expected for the big dance number finale.
Sorry I'll miss their headline gig at Black Cat later in the month. I commend that show to all who have a little bit of power pop in their hearts. ;)

they were so great! i'm praying i'll be able to make it to the black cat show. i was so happy they did "There's a Fire," and i was definitely singing along to every song. i got some great pictures and videos also!! and thought the mic's were down at first, too. i wonder what doctor Damian goes to in Bethesda….
i was very happy too, cause i got to talk to Rusty after the show who i had yet to meet and he's awesome. i mean, he is a perfect match for the band and i'm really glad they chose him as their new guitarist.

So does anyone else hear a bit of "Jukebox Hero" guitar in "Invincible"? I LOVE it….

Hey; I've got videos from last night of portions of There's A Fire, Get Over It, You're So Damn Hot, Do What You Want, and the A Million Ways dance. If anyone wants me to send them; send an IM to youbeBetty at some point tonight. I'm not sure yet how to host them on a site. Pictures, too, will be posted in a bit…

Were you the person who came away with clips from Rilo Kiley this May as well?

Did you have anymore then just the two (With Arms Outstretched, Let My Love Open The Door)?
Also, do you know if a bootleg ever leaked?

when the signs out front say no photo, audio, or video recording, that includes using your cellphone to do any of those things. posting publicly about doing such will only lead to bands asking us to confiscate cell phones as well, and nobody wants to have to do that.

What? Dude, we were talking about the Philly show. Trocadero for life, or something…

then you're thinking of someone else, cause i wasn't at the Philly show.
i also wasn't aware that 15 second cell phone videos or 15 second camera video's weren't okay. when i have been told no video recording, i assumed it was professional video taping of the whole–or at least minute long segments of the shows. thanks for the heads up.

I thought Ok Go were OK… for me the band comes across as Weezer lite… the songs are just not that catchy or well written… they did however get one of the loudest cheers of approval i've ever heard in the club for thier set ending dance routine. which is geeky and lame, but i guess that the point of it.
at least i didn't need earplugs to block out the squeals and shreaking of the crowd as was the case with Hanson.

They had a great, abbreviated set. I too left at the beginning of the 3rd Rufus Wainwright song. He's become too broadway "diva" poster-child for flamboyants everywhere. Since when did he develop the lisp? Ok Go was well worth it though…

actually, you know what was even more worth it? watching the boys, from the floor, up on the balcony during Rufus's set. Damian was singing along the whole time and playing air drums and orchestrating the whole thing, standing all alone in the corner. it really made the whole show about 20x more amusing.
also, Kosmo, you really need to see one of their full sets. it's much better…that band has some of the funniest stage banter ever, not to mention the sweet moves. and they are sweethearts. for me, their first album is equally as catchy as anything Weezer; but a bit more electro-poppy.

Was he lisping as he was singing along?
Kosmo's an old man like me. When you get to be old, you become more picky about what pleases you.

Oh…i'm totally there already. i started getting into the rock 'n roll when i was about six years old, and it was all punk pop, ska, and emo. then, half way through middle school, i discovered that i should stop listening to screamo; as there are just…blatantly BETTER artists out there. and it's true. it's interesting, cause this whole Fall Out Boy thing has completely escaped me (i despise of them), but i can only wonder how much i would have loved them four or five years ago.
