please name me the top 5 bands i haven't listened to

i need some music.

if you could, please state what the band is a cross between.

for instance: jackyl could be characterized as a cross between a bad 80s metal band and a chainsaw convention.

no problem, if you don't know who jackyl is. you shouldn't. i wish i could wipe my mind of them.
ya gotta give us a little more to work with than that - who HAVE you listened to?
1. Burning Brides (Metal meets Punk meets Garage)
2. The Features (The Jam meet XTC)
3. The Hand Washers (Clap Your Hands meets The Germs)
Easel Muzzle - A brother and sister from Alabama who play a spoon, a jug and a rickenbacker. They are a cross between Radiohead and Lynrd Skynryd.

The Syrup Trixx - A Swedish band which has taken Abba like pop but added heavy guitars and morose lyrics. Cross between Abba, The Smiths and Muse.

Uncle Chicken Waffle - They have been only playing the Grog and Tankard so far, but their groove is tight.

Tops on the Turvey - 8 guitars 1 singer. Its an emotional experience. Cross between Wolf Eyes and Beethoven.

The Strokes - Nothing more to be said.
Coheed And Cambria (cross between feces and prog-emo)

Robert Randolph & The Family Band (cross between dave matthews and a black guy)

Disturbed (cross between korn and a kid with tourettes)

Fall Out Boy (cross between good charlotte and a rhythmic gymnastics routine)

Matisyahu (cross between weird al yankovic circa "amish paradise" and a jew)
oh, i think the post by ggw is a bit of a joke.

more to go on…hmmm. my taste tends toward rock-ish i suppose.

i can give the last few shows i have been to.

shows:
nada surf
brmc
bjm
oasis
white stripes
doves
going to black keys
bss
british sea power
kings of leon

nothing too avant garde.
can't speak for the other two, and The Had Washers does seem a little suspicious given earlier threads today but his description of Burning Brides is spot on

Kind of Swervedrivery/My Bloody Valentine-esque.
Get on the hype train.

Arctic Monkeys (Libertines and the Jam) – I don't care how much these guys are hyped, their songs are great

Ladytron (Garbage and Stereolab)

Mew (My Bloody Valentine and… well, Stereolab? I don't know, it's modern prog)

Elbow (elements of U2's "big" music with Radiohead tweaks)

Gogol Bordello (a gypsy, caberet version of System of a Down)

and Burning Brides is no joke. They rock in every way.
Wolf Parade - Modest Mouse meets Arcade Fire
The National - Not sure how to describe. Just give Alligator a few spins.
Andrew Bird - Brilliant. He's playing the Black Cat soon.
John Hoskinson Elliot Smith crossed with Crowded House

Eugene Edwards Rockpile crossed with Elvis Costello and Squeeze

De Novo Dahl Super Furry Animals crossed with Kinks

Myracle Brah - Beatles crossed with just about every great power pop act

Do Me Bad Things Stoner rock crossed with soul and girl groups.

That thing is retarded.

For "Decemberists" the closest artist is shown as Doc Watson.

For "Fountains of Wayne" the closest artist is Cornershop.
Streetlight Manifesto
Metallica
Beatles
AC/DC
Def Leppard
Skid Row

I second this. I really like all their stuff.
