hfstival set times

who closed-janes addiction?

just didn't seem worth it to go when one of the 4 bands cancelled. though the roots set for a whole $15 might have been worth it.

a fall hfstival? at rfk? might be a bit tight if they are going to hold the women's world cup here and with mls season still going on.
Godsmack closed. Jane's played at 5pm. i guess they didnt close cause they were the "surprise guest"

and at the end of the festival, they thanked everyone for coming and said, "see you in september"

plus, I heard a few people throw it around after the show as well.

maybe they could have world cup and the hfstival at the same time….
the hfs, was a surprise this year, for many reasons….first off the surprise guest was Jane's Addiction!!!! that would have made it worth going alone, although, i do agree that a short set-time did hinder their performance, but it was still nice to hear the new material, which, Surprising to me mixed in well with the old favs, and no Jane Say's HA! It made me more pumped for Lollopalooza (too bad, it's a nissan)…another surprise of the HFS was that more bands then not really put on a good performance, the used was fantastic, the roots moved the unfamiliar crowd, afi and audioslave were both cool, I though chevelle was average although i like them, and good charlotte was the band that seemed to interest the majority of the audience and there set pleased there many fans…the final surprise , well almost, was that the crowd was slightly less obnoxious as in the last couple years…maybe it was the lack of scorching sun, which wasn't further frying the underage alcohalic frat boys, but most people were well (i use that losely) behaved.
the final surprise was that after audioslave set i left to find my window busted…..BUMMER, i quess they weren't as well behved as i thought..

Speaking of Janes New Material:

"Just Because" (Real Audio Required)
Nothing like bringing a topic back from the dead…

Pollstar lists the Violent Femmes at RFK stadium on May 23. The rumors on hfstival.com say to look for a two day event with one day of crappy nü metal bands with misspelled names and one day (the 23rd I assume) with older stuff like the Femmes. Can we hope for the Cure or the Pixies?
Man, I hope not! I'd rather see the Pixies on their own.
uh, I'm sorry, but where do you see the bands' list for this year's hfstival? I sure couldn't find it on whfs.com.
Coachella is about the only festival type situation where I could tolerate seeing the Pixies. They really belong in a club, on their own, where they can show off their nifty visuals.

It's simply speculation at this point.

So who is Velvet Revolver? They were on a bunch of the 'speculative' lists, and they're not listed in allmusicguide.
For some reason, and I'm being serious, I'm thinking Michael Stipe has something to do with this. Of course I could be totally wrong.

Alright, I answered my own question - googled 'em.

Full article here.

The odds are stacked against Velvet Revolver. Their singer, Scott Weiland, is currently in drug rehab for the umpteenth time. Who knows if he'll be a free man when it's time to tour, and judging from his past history, it could be a struggle for him to stay clean when the band hits the road.

As for his bandmates â?? ex-Guns N' Roses members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums), and former Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Dave Kushner â?? they're ready to rock, but there's some question whether the rock community is ready to embrace them. Over a decade has passed since most of the lineup set stages alight with Guns, and since then the members have embarked on other projects without much mainstream success.

-edit-
pollard, great minds. I must have been googling when you were suggesting just that….

See, I swear I'm not picking on you Bags, but this is why I force myself to listen to the mainstream stations on XM, or even real radio once in awhile. I almost laughed outloud when Thirsty thought it was a Stipe project. This is why I write about Van Halen on BigYawn, cause sometimes, the hipsters (ie us), are so involved in the indie/underground acts, that we miss whats goin on in pop culture. Now Velvet Revolver suck, or at least their one single does. And I doubt Weiland is allowed to leave the state of CA he's had so many problems. But still, it shocks me that folks like us music junkies haven't heard of them.
Man, I'm out of the loop. Say… did any of you hear that Janet Jackson flashed her breasts on Superbowl Sunday?

You're probably thinking of Velvet Goldmine - a movie produced by Stipe.
Yeh, I've seen that movie. That probably triggered it.

sock, you can pick on me (I don't think you did, anyway). I too was shocked when I finally saw what the band is – I didn't know that sh*t? Damn, girl, where you been? If nothing else, I should know because it's pop culture junk, and I claim to be a pop culture junkie (hence the subscription to Entertainment Weekly…).

However, this does not move me to listen to the radio. XM…? To that I get closer and closer (I can't listen to WOXY in my office much), though the iPod shuffle is pretty damn sweet in the car.
Any shred of credibility I gained in my late teen years and early early 20's is all but gone.

Wearing green cardigan sweaters to synth-metal shows isn't helping you get any of it back.
