Not that show. I was there, JJ72 and Stereophonics were the only ones playing. Sad thing is I heard the bassist left the group.
Elbow opening for Doves

agreed, far better than Doves
Warlocks opening for BRMC at Fletchers
When Jimi Hendrix opened for the Monkees  . No, I wasn't there but just imagine….

But I did see Jazz Butcher open for the Screaming Blue Messiahs back in '86 on F St. SBM drew so much juice that an outlet burned up, forcing a short break (hey, I made a pun).
Aden for Luna, Reputation for Luna, Camper Van for 10k Maniacs, and Blue Aeroplanes for the Church.
and Blue Aeroplanes for the Church
what a great band the Blue Aeroplanes are / were - saw them play a storming gig at the Rock Garden years ago - the dancer bloke going mad, guitarists jumping into the crowd, Langley off his rocker
I'll go with Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins opening for the Chili Peppers in 91 at State Theater in Detroit.
ida for pedro the lion or
the super furries for grandaddy (does that count as support or was that just a double-bill? i dunno) or
promise ring for jets to brazil (when they were touring like the only good album they ever had)
..and you will know us by the trail of dead for QOTSA a year or so ago. or was it the other way around?
mercury rev and gumball opening for dino jr.
david kilgour opening for pavement
wilco opening for the jayhawks
archers of loaf opening for weezer
meat puppets opening for blind melon
soul coughing and railroad jerk opening for jsbx
railroad jerk and cat power opening for gbv
the replacements (i will dare tour) w/ x

the velvet crush w/ oasis (i startled tommy keene who was playing guitar with them, when i yelled out his name)

the replacements with r.e.m… they came on after the three' o' clock as a suprise guest. paul played drums for a drunken cover of "if i only had a brain"

the mighthy lemon drops with chameleons uk…. the chameleon took their sweet arse time getting on stage and i left before they even came on.

iggy pop with the pretenders

janes addition with iggy pop

Are you kidding….Doves were amazing at that show, totally made me re-listen to Last Broadcast and realize just how great an album it was.

i would like to agree with you, but you are wrong, about both the show and the album

I'm curious to hear your reason why you think I am wrong. Elbow was dull, honestly….and almost put me to sleep. Doves rocked…I wish I saw them again later last summer….

you just are wrong, it's that simple ;)

actually, you can reverse what you said, Doves are dull to me, very dull, Elbow was fantastic, the song newborn is one of the best live songs i have seen in the last couple of years, I can't tell one doves song from the next, kind of like the new radiohead album, it is meaningless to me
I think elbows first album is better than the 2 doves albums. And I think Guy from elbow can be really dis-arming live. Doves are much more stand-offish and it was noticeable how far back on the stage they were…..

But really I think they were both pretty decent live.
i forgot to add brendan benson and the welfeed boys!!!
If I had to choose one, I would go for Ballboy for Cincerama.

Other ones were

Portastatic (or something like this) for Yo La Tengo at the 9:30.

Someone will have to help me to remember the name of that band from Boston that opened for the singer of the Lemonheads at the Blackcat in 2002.

Burning Brides for Division of Laura Lee at the Blackcat.

Grandaddy for Elliot Smith at the 9:30 (I think they opened for him in 2000 or 2001?)

The Pogues opening for UB40 in the late eighties in Barcelona.

I remember I liked the Posies (but I never became a follower of their music) when they opened for Teenage Fanclub in Barcelona around 1991.
