this point is lost on many here, but an internet message board is part of real life.
the logical question is: why would anyone be anything different than they really are on an internet message board?
i've got some theories, but i don't think they are appropriate for a public forum.

And quite often ugly people aren't all they're cracked up to be.
I wasn't aware I was having an INTERACTION with someone by commenting on their picture that was posted on a chatboard. If someone posted a picture of George Bush on the 9:30 chatboard, and you commented "That guy is an asshole", are you thus having an interaction with him?
And as far as JUDGING her, yes, I was judging her looks. I was not projecting that as a complete judgment of her as a person. Based on what I see and read about her, she's book smart and homely, which is what I pointed out. She's also stupid for being addicted to soda. Those are the only judgments I can really make about her, and they certainly don't cover a lot of ground.
Some of you need to get over yourselves and stop being so selectively judgmental. Why aren't you calling out Vansmack or Fico for being shallow every time they point out that some 18 year old girl is "hot"?

And why does pointing out what people look like make someone shallow anyway? I'll bet looks are the only thing you notice about 99% of the people you come in contact with yourself.

Yeah dude…you're constantly saying how ugly, fat, bald etc people are. It's pretty funny actually.
Shallow, shallow, shallow.
Too bad we can't all be super buff male supermodels like Mr. Rhett. You should change your username Rhett, Shallow Male Supermodel.
You'll have to ask yourself that question, no? While this may only be an internet message board, yes, some of us do take offense to superficiality, no matter the context.
Your argument is what's troubling me right now. When asking why your comment made you shallow, you reasoned with the fact that apparently everyone else acts this way. I'm going to have to say that there are plenty of us on here that don't pay that much attention to that kind of stuff. There's a difference between taking notice of someone's appearence (something which is simply human nature), and using that observation in your judgement/interaction with that person. And as far as I'm concerned, the second one is NOT okay in my book. Whether on an internet message board, or in real life.
Say what you will - I'm the LAST person who is going to try to dissuade anyone from speaking their mind. But just trust me; beautiful people are NOT all they're cracked up to be.

Zzzz… this thread seemed to be heading in one of two directions, but unfortunately the direction it ultimately chose was the one focused on Rhett's views of beauty, shallowness, and the internet. Too bad.

You always know an argument is lost when someone says that this thread is getting old or boring.

Rhett, just forget that Interpersonal Communications 101 definition of what true communication is or what an actual interaction may be. That textbook was written by your older brother's college psych prof in 1976 or something. It's a new age…people have real communication in other ways than talking and fucking now.
My question is, how are we not interacting with each other here?
And forget trying to explain to me how it's not rude and tacky to be constantly pointing out how geeky looking, ugly, fat or bald a person may be. You'll never pull it off. As I said before, please feel free to continue making an ass of yourself.

I don't believe I said anything negative about you. You're the one who is judging me and calling me names.

What I take issue with is the Misfits T-shirt. I mean, Misfits? Come on!
And I was told she went to Wharton. What a let down.
Aside from all that. I think one can be "punk" and get an MBA, sure, why not…

And the Bullet 45 was a brutal little slice of wax…ehh I don't care if how dorky they are…I still love the old Misfits stuff.
And yes, Rhett, I did call you names.

Nobody of the 15? 20? or so people I've met from the 9:30 board was anywhere near model good-looking, myself included. I highly doubt you are any different, but hey, good to see you have such a high opinion of your looks.

Well we haven't seen yours. Post a picture of yourself, big guy.
And if you're speaking of the picture that psycho ggw posted of me, I can say that I've lost 10-15 pounds since then, and found a more suitable hair style.

My dad can beat up your dad. Well, he could if it weren't for the dimentia and chronic back pain.
Back in the day my dad would have kicked your dad's ass.
And I bet I could beat you in a swimming race. Name your distance!
