New Morrissey Date?

Totally agree. Totally miss them. I guess they stopped making albums when Amy (the singer) moved to NYC. They were my favorite Bay Area band (saw them 19 times, tied with Sleater-Kinney…yes I'm keeping a list..)

A Singer of Suffering, Resurrected From Illness, Reaffirms His Mettle

By KELEFA SANNEH

PHILADELPHIA, July 23 â?? It should be no big deal, right? A singer announces that he is canceling some tour dates while he tries to recover from a viral infection. Fans respond reasonably: they shrug it off, wish him well and wait until next time.

But then, Morrissey isnâ??t just any singer: he has become one of the defining rock stars of the past few decades by virtue of his grand voice, his grander songs and his charming habit of playing with melodrama.

And suffice it to say that his fans â?? like the proud but self-pitying characters in his songs â?? arenâ??t exactly known for their reasonableness. After the cancellations were announced, Morrissey message boards were lit up with salvos from the disgruntled (some of whom claimed slow ticket sales were the real culprit) and the still-fairly-gruntled. One fan called Morrissey â??an unprofessional bore,â? adding, â??Itâ??s over between us.â? A typically understated response: â??Instead of psychologically enhancing him, and trying to make him feel better, you sit here and utilize mind terrorism on him. Are you all Republicans?â?

Some of the concerts â?? including planned appearances at Madison Square Garden (June 30) and the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J. (July 6) â?? havenâ??t been rescheduled. But on Monday night, Morrissey came to the Mann Center here, for a concert that had been postponed from June 29. His normally smooth voice sounded a little froggy, but he seemed to be in a great (even goofy) mood, which more than made up for the occasional rasp.

â??You show great spirit in the face of chronic adversity,â? he said, by way of tribute to those who hadnâ??t forsaken him. And even the finickiest fan must admit that there is simply nothing un-fun about watching a 48-year-old man rip off his shirt while crooning, â??Then you open your eyes/And you see someone that you physically despise.â?

Never mind what the ear, nose and throat specialist says: Morrissey, often lampooned as the most delicate of flowers, turns out to be sturdier than just about any of his contemporaries. His old band, the Smiths, was formed a quarter-century ago in Manchester, England, and though the group lasted only five years, Smiths songs remain staples of indie-rock playlists around the world. His eight solo albums havenâ??t all been equally successful, but theyâ??re all worth hearing, and the best songs rank with any of the Smithsâ?? classics.

In short, he still drives his fans nuts, he still puts on a great show, and he still hasnâ??t become an oldies act. Back in the 1980s, who could have predicted that?

Mondayâ??s concert included a handful of old favorites â?? â??The Boy With the Thorn in His Side,â? â??Girlfriend in a Coma,â? â??How Soon Is Now?â? â?? all of which sounded as ambiguous, and as funny, as they ever did. (In chronicling his sad-sack heroes, Morrissey usually finds a way to hint at both sympathy and mockery.) In â??How Soon Is Now?,â? soon after he sang, â??I am human and I need to be loved/Just like everybody else does,â? a beefy guy rushed the stage, planted a kiss on his heroâ??s neck and was promptly tackled by security. (Itâ??s a Morrissey concert tradition.) â??I am loved,â? murmured the singer, unperturbed.

On his two most recent albums â?? â??You Are the Quarry,â? from 2004, and â??Ringleader of the Tormentors,â? from last year â?? he has embraced a brawny, heavy rock â??nâ?? roll sound. One guitarist added a swaggering hard-rock riff to â??I Will See You in Far-Off Places,â? a trudging song from the latter CD. Sometimes the new songs reflected his continuing sturdiness a bit too well: the band marched grimly ahead while he sang the (always witty) lyrics. But if thatâ??s what keeps him going, itâ??s worth it.

One of his best recent songs is â??First of the Gang to Die,â? an ode to an antihero from â??You Are the Quarryâ?; it has already become a fan favorite. On Monday night, he tweaked the lyrics, singing, â??And he stole from the rich â?? which is you/And the poor â?? which is me.â? And as he worked the crowd nonstop, grabbing hands and pausing to acknowledge screamed requests and fending off kissers, you could see what he meant: stardom is hard work, even (or especially) cult stardom.

Maybe he should be careful about all that human contact: isnâ??t that how someone catches a virus? Or maybe he likes to remind himself that his career, and his health, are at the mercy of fans who can be as gentle or as vicious as anyone else in love. This show felt like a triumph, but it also felt like a pleasant surprise, even though Morrissey has been doing this since the 1980s. â??You feared the worst, as you should,â? he said. â??But occasionally. …â?

just wondering, is there anyone else who hasn't gotten their money back yet from this show?

i still haven't seen the 140 something dollars i've spent on my 2 tickets
I haven't gotten anything back yet, but I got my tickets through the Rams Head ticketing system instead of ticketmaster…
Still negotiating with Rams Head as the credit card I used had to be cancelled due to fraud. Good times.
I just spoke to customer service @ Ram's Head since my money also had not been credited backed yet.

She said that the concert is now being rescheduled for October although the actual date has not yet been confirmed. Stay tuned . . .
I just spoke to Morrissey, and he says with all this hot weather, his balls been dragging down around his knees.

I will be all over this if it comes to pass in October. However, somehow I very much doubt that it will . .
It really pisses me off that ticketmaster already refunded us automatically, so we'd have to try and get tickets again.

sucks.
I blame Morrissey. He's in on the fix, for sure. Trying to raise dough for his ball lift.

Same with RHL. If they were planning on rescheduling they could have let us hold on to the tickets so we could use them at the future date without having to endure this oh-so-pleasant ticket buying experience again.

Ummmm . . . that option is pretty much what's being given out. Hence the reason that TicketBastard gave out auto-refunds & Rams Head didn't. Any old tickets will still be honored at the venue/new show.
Boy, don't I feel stoopid. I wish the good folks at RHL would've told me that.
Has RHL actually made any sort of announcement at all? I haven't seen anything official since the day of the show. As far as I've seen they just said the show was off, then dropped it.
Hope they can reactivate my barcode. I'm not counting on it though.
I spoke with Ram's Head yesterday, and they informed me that people with ticketmaster tickets will have to buy tickets again.
Oct 31st is the rescheduled date!
YESSSSSS

How do you know this???? And is it going to be at Ramshead?

I can't believe he's playing on halloween. I'm thrilled about this but damnit, I'm going to be so tired. (Any suggestions on how to survive three conecerts with in a short time span?) I'm planning on attending the Ryan Adams concert the night before and also, I plan on seeing She wants Revenge on Saturday October 28th. Looks like I'm going to have one hell of a halloween!
what happens then with the ramshead tickets… are they replaced? or do the original ones get you in?
