Baltimore's New Slogan

you're exactly right

suburban baltimore is having a backlash against the city because all of the gentrification and rehabbing of the city is causing the city to spread outwards and more and more of the "hip hop community" is moving to places like Glen Burnie, catonsville and rosedale.

but it's INFORMED stereotyping!
OK, it's odd that there isn't a good thread with Baltimore in its title, although this thread is a greatest hits collection of boardies of lore

I actually heard what I would consider a positive story about crime and Baltimore. NPR had something at the end of 1A today about Baltimore, crime, and the Roca program

A lot of factors go into this, but these numbers represent a major step in solving problems that save lives

Homicide Data: Baltimore
- 2020: 335 homicides, matching top-tier cities like NYC by count per population
- 2024: 201 homicides, a ~40% decrease from 2020; lowest yearly total since 2011
- 2025: 68 homicides in the first half of the year, a ~23% drop from the same period in 2024 (88 homicides)
April alone saw 5 homicides, the lowest monthly number since 1970
Overall, 2025 is on track for the lowest homicide total in over 50 years

Again, there are lots of factors at play. One factor is that many of the people who were killing each other are now dead, wounded, or in jail, which somewhat explains why the numbers were high initially

I love the concept of Roca, and I think Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott should get some credit too
Ha! Right after I post this thing about Baltimore and the slogans, this shows up in my feed for the movie
