[qb] I am really annoyed with the club for not postponing the show.
this is one of those can't-win deals. but, just for everyone's information, the calls were about 10 to 1 in favor of people who wanted us to put the show on.

the band was there (having made it up from NC), the club was operational, a lot of people wanted to come down.

so how was it irresponsible? if you felt that it was too dangerous, you didn't need to come down. your choice. it's just a rock concert. we didn't make anyone come crawling over broken glass to get to a life-sustaining resource. if you think it was that life-and-death to cancel the show, in the name of safety, then you are basically admitting that it was important enough to put on the show for those that wanted to go.

are the movie theaters all irresponsible for showing movies in th storm? how about the stores that managed to stay open? should they have closed in case you decided it was too dangerous to shop there?

however…
as in all of these emergency situations, we would be happy to exchange your unused ticket for another show. call the club for details.
Just be grateful no one was injured in an accident on the way to the show on such a bad evening…you know it would've been the clubs fault for not cancelling, just ask any scumbag lawyer…which is basically all lawyers.
Actually, I don't think the club is liable if someone is injured on the way to the club. That is pure foolishness.

Now if someone were injured AT the club, and it was caused by the weather, that maybe is another story.
Warning The holder assumes all risk and danger incidental to the Event, whether occurring prior to, during, or subsequent to the actual playing of the Event, including specifically (but not exclusively), the danger of being injured by thrown bats and thrown or batted balls, pucks or other similar objects, and agrees that the participating clubs or teams, venue operator, or event promoter, the league, their respective owners, shareholders, partners, agents, players, officers, directors, contractors and employees are not liable for injuries resulting from such causes.

MacDonalds don't put big Mac's in fat bastards mouths but evidently it's their fault they're fat bastards….people want to make other people responsible for their own stupid decisions.

actually, I think they ruled against that one (thank God)
Guiny, it was only a 4 MPH difference in sustained winds that made it a tropical storm as oppossed to a hurricane. And your taste in music is irrelevant here. Also, it's very obvious that you haven't seen my neighborhood or that of many others.

Seth, thanks so much for having a heart for those of us who had to forfeit a damn good show. Hope they come back very soon!
GUINY I AM. :)

I AM.

IT WAS THE BEST SHOW SO FAR THIS YEAR, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE WARLOCKS. THOSE GUYS WERE GOOD, BUT THE SINGER IS A BIT OFF.
is it just me or is this thread 'fflicted? It only shows the first of three pages on the front page. I was wondering why nobody had said anything about how the show was. <img src="http://www.alex.to/ubb/confused.gif" alt=" - " />
I have to say, I came downtown from the NW DC/MD line without any real problems, and drove home (around midnight) with even fewer. I'm awfully sorry to those balmor folks out there (Jag! Man that sucks…) but for those of us in DC, there was hardly a hitch. I can't remember who said it, but Isabel did end up making it a pretty special night…excellent set from the Warlocks and a phenomenal set from BRMC, capped with a huge 3 song encore. Not a bad night to meet, GGW.

Once again, I find myself in the minority.

I was lucky enough to see the show. But I really do feel bad for everyone who wasn't able to make it to the show due to circumstances out of their control. Thanks, at least, for being fair enough to let people exchange tickets. And book BRMC again soon!

B.R.M.C.: Menacing Rock to Match the Night

Saturday, September 20, 2003; Page C05

Do you have to be an idiot to venture out in the middle of a hurricane just to see a rock band? No, but it helps. It also helps to be a fatalist.

Or a storm scoffer. Or perhaps just a devoted fan. The crowd of 250 or so that braved flying road signs and dodged urban driftwood to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the 9:30 club Thursday night was probably a mix of those types.

Bassist and singer Robert Turner expressed R-rated surprise at the healthy turnout. "I don't know what the [expletive] you're doing here," he said. "Don't you know you're supposed to be home?" The nasty weather wasn't about to keep the bushy-haired, black-clad California trio from making a menacing racket with their songs, however. Cast in an eerie red light on a dark stage, the band thundered through songs from its debut album, "B.R.M.C.," and its recent release, "Take Them On, on Your Own."

Trafficking in dark and brooding rockers that seem to well up from a pit of angst and aggravation, cynicism and doubt, nihilism and even true love, B.R.M.C. relentlessly pounded songs home. Fabulously efficient drummer Nick Jago made maximum impact with minimum showboating, while guitarist and singer Peter Hayes scattered six-string shards of brilliance on "Spread Your Love," "Love Burns" and the politically charged "US Government," formerly titled "Kill the US Government." On "Whatever Happened to My Rock 'N' Roll?," the band matched the day's weather with a fury all its own.

Before kicking off an extended, increasingly ear-splitting, feedback-fueled encore, Turner thanked fans again for risking life and limb for 90 minutes of rock. "I hope your town's still there when you leave," he said. For the most part, it was. And the idiots, fatalists, scoffers and fans made their way safely home.

Weak come back for you..you're not losing your edge are you?
I would tend to agree with Kurosawa's sentiments.

Why did you get calls that were 10:1 in favor of having the show? Probably because the people who WERE NOT calling were people who had MORE IMPORTANT things on their mind than a concert. Like protecting themseoves, their belongings, their loved ones, etc.

Perhaps the true ratio of importance here is not the 10:1 ratio, but rather the ratio of how many people made it to the show (250) to the number of people who didn't go who would have (?). But of couse, that's a hindsight ratio..

the angel on my left shoulder said it wasn't such a good idea to go out driving by oneself… if kosmette had been in town the second pair of eyes in the car would have done the trick. sounds like a good one but whatca going to do when isabel come for you.

Actually its only 1 mile. 73 is the upper limit for tropical storm and 74 is a class 1 hurricane.
