Getting to hear Masters of War and Fucking Up were definite pluses…

the same people smoking in the arena were probably the same idiot who decided to light up in the metro station and continue to puff away even after the station master made an annoucement over the pa…
Masters of War was amazing.
Excellent concert … but what was the deal with the no binoculars rule ?? Not like I was going to throw them at anyone. Good thing I drove so I could put 'em back in the car. In a way tonight's concert was very much like the way arena concerts used to be wayyyyy back in the 70s before video screens. The band just has to get by on good music and good playing. And PJ delivered. Anyone got a complete set-list ??

Got my ticket at 7:55. Three fan club folks recognized me from Camden on Saturday and offered me their extra.. floor section 3, Row J. ..about 10 rows back on Stone's side. ..That's what the fans of this band are about.. funny how so many of the same faces in the front rows at these shows. ..much thanks to those guys for the ticket!!!

Pearl Jam brought the rock.. Opening up with "Release" always does it for me, so my ..a-hem… 38th Pearl Jam show ..was a great one. :D

And although there were many highlights, I think the fact that when I was walking out I ran into Christie and Nicole, two girls I've seen at many a pop-punk or emo shows at 930 and other local venues.. walking out of the show at the same time I did, was pretty cool. These girls were 4 years old when "Ten" came out. They told me they really liked Pearl Jam and how their parents had PJ cd's that they listened to since they were kids.
When I was like .."What are *you* guys doing here?" They said, "What do you mean? How can you not like Pearl Jam? They are a true, pure rock and roll band."

I thought that was really cool coming from two 19 year olds who I know see alot of shows for their age.. but usually bands like Taking Back Sunday or Eisley or something like that…

A diverse crowd with, yes, lots of 930 staph in attendance or working. …and Ian McKaye standing stage left for most of the whole night.

..doubt we'll see PJ playing a church for $5. anytime soon, though :p
I had chills during "Better Man." If they'd played "Nothingman," I no doubt would have passed out. I've never seen that one performed…..

They put on an amazing show, with 20,000 fans who know all the words to every song….I'm barely a fan in relative terms! I loved that the show was at Verizon Center, too.

hahah. yeah, that went right into my "silliest rule EVER at a concert"

i would really love that one explained.

no poster tubes either!

good show though, even w.o binos. ;)
saw them saturday, saw them last night….

music aside, PJ has become our generation's Grateful Dead.

year after year, seeing them live - and more importantly - seeing the band/audience dynamic floors me.

Their discs aren't always my top picks, but i have to say they are possibly one of the all-time best live acts.

I can't put my finger on it, butout of all the shows I see, nothing ever compares.

hi . . . i like to go to concerts and take shitty cell phone pictures. what in the hell is the fucking fascination with cell phones. people are addicted and realize that people hate you when you are on them. i also love the girls who scream the entire show, in your ear.

my friend just killed himself, and the first song out into encore made me cry. thank you eddie for having one the best bands of my generation.

who was on keys?

I have a feeling the Verizon Center folks thought we were going to go ape shit and throw anything that wasn't nailed down around in the crowd.

My silliest rule/encounter:

Up to the counter to get a bottle of water.

"I'd like a bottle of water."

Saleslady: "Would you like a cup with that?"

Bags:"I'd rather not, I'd rather have it in the bottle."

Saleslady: "Then I can't sell it to you. You have to take it in a cup."

Bags: "Well, if that's how I must take it, then I'm fine with a cup. You seemed to ask as if it was a choice."

She and odd saleslady next to her look at me as if I've got three heads for the next 90 seconds of the transaction.

Such an odd, odd exchange.

"Boom" Gaspar a musician from Hawaii that Vedder discovered while surfing there…
why the booing during "betterman" and another song later in the evening? is that customary?

I agree completely

They were yelling "Boom" – for the keyboard player….You mihgt recall that starting "Better Man," Eddie pointed back to Boom and said something like, "we're doing this one a little differently tonight." Then the 'BOOM, BOOM, BOOM' chanting began…

Not booing. Cheering the keyboard player: Boom Gaspar
the other "silly" rule was for the people on the main floor who were told to stay behind the pink tape on the floor or be ejected…. i sure it wasn't all the silly as to prevent bumrushing of the stage, but that it was stated on several occasions and referred to as a tour rule.
ah, ok, figured there was more to it and my bad ears didn't pick up the "boom" just the "boo" hahaha. only 30 and already the ears are shot!
If you loved the show - you gotta do this:

Soon after each show you can get a downloadable live version:

https://bootlegs2.pearljam.com/

I'm not sure if you need to be a fan club member or not…but it's so worth it. You'll be amazed @ how good the boots sounds: nary a missed note. It sounds like they've culled the best bits of a year long tour.

You can get a cheaper MP3 version or a FLAC version (boots used to be avail 30 minutes after the show - I guess FLAC processing takes longer thus the couple day wait now.)

So glad all liked the show…I can't wait for Pitt & Cinci.

They weren't booing, they were saying boo-urns.
I think the reason Pearl Jam puts on such a great show is that have a number of songs which really work great in a live setting. For starters "Do The Evolution", "Given To Fly", Animal, Even Flow, Alive . They then have an extensive catalog of material they can swap in and out between shows in part I'm sure to keep it from being boring for themselves. It's also a better show when Vedder isn't feeling the need to solve all the world's problems and he keeps the yack to a minimum.

So when are they coming back for a proper two night stand in DC? You know where I'll be :D
