I was surprised he didn't do more of that and was frankly a little disappointed by it. I suppose that it's because my politics pretty much track with Eddie's. Something tells me most of the musclehead-baseball-cap-wearing set wouldn't have been too happy.
Because it's DC, I was expecting "Rockin in the Free World" as the closer.

tour security had a lot of rules to enforce last night. no binoculars was one of them. they said that they'd had people hitting others/throwing them at shows. no bottles was another.
i helped one of their guys place that tape on the floor. it's easier to tell someone to stay behind a bright pink line than to say "stay in your seat." nobody was going to be ejected for being in the aisle a little bit, but they were very concerned with keeping people in the seats, and not letting people just charge up front.
the lights coming up at the end was at the band's request.
there were a lot more. it's interesting to see what gets noticed by the gp, and what doesn't. anything else?

Funny, I loved it. The crowd is so devoted, it's great to be able to look around the house and see all those dedicated men in baseball hats singing and waving their arms in the air.
One thing about PJ shows I find hysterical – no matter where you are in the venue, somewhere nearby will be a trio or foursome of really, really excited guys who are just wailing and screaming and chanting "Eddie, Eddie" for the whole two and a half hours. Last night those guys were right behind me, and actually reached down and raised our hands in to the air.
Then, after the first 'set' was over, they implored us to stand. As if Pearl Jam wouldn't come out for an encore if my friend and I weren't standing along with the other 19,998 folks standing, screaming, bellowing and clapping.
At Nissan those 'guys' were behind us, half a row over. They're always there – different guys, exact same M.O.

The no bottles was funny, considering it included plastic water bottles as well.
I didn't know about the no binoculars rule – funny, because I was very close but thought, "damn, I ALWAYS forget about binoculars." Much the same way I always forget about earplugs to most BC or 9:30 shows…

I think my perception of last night's show was a little different than that of most forum-ites. I have to say that I was underwhelmed by the entire show, and especially it's pacing.
The show started off SO amazingly well. Coming on to Master/Slave and going into Release was an incomparable feeling. The kept going strong but I think Lowlight killed the momentum. I've gotten pretty sick of Betterman and the insidious piano intro made it even worse. Why Go and RVM couldn't bring the energy back.
And I know I'm definitely in the minority on the 1st encore. It was putting me to sleep but to each their own, I guess.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned that they played Leash. They only recently started playing that song after almost 10 years. The studio version is so ferocious and intense, but last night's version seemed almost too polished and rote. Same thing with they mailed in RVM.
Kosmo - which section were you in? We ended up 3rd row in front of Mikey. I was a little surprised we were that far back after having been front row for the last three DC area PJ shows. I noticed alot more people travelling for this tour - possibly a function of being around Memorial Day. That could explain it.
Good too see Bombay Chutney and That Guy at the show. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves last night!

i could live without betterman and liked the whoesque finish to the first set.
i prefer less yack from eddie, while i agree with his politics it bogs down the proceedings and distracts him from the task at hand.

I'm a little late on this, but whatever…
Thoughts I had during PJ's show last night:
-Mike McCready needs to quit the pete townshend-esque theatrics and just play. He looked really silly pointing at clusters of people in the audience (fortunately, he did stop doing this around 10:00).
-Jeff and Matt are an outstanding rhythm section.
-Yuppies are weird. I had a group of them in front of me, all wearing baseball caps, all inebriated, all unaware of any songs not on Ten, who gave each other high fives at the end of each radio hit as if they were congratulating themselves.
-Eddie is a natural frontman.
-For the sake of variety, Stone needs to play more solos, because many of Mike's sounded the same.
-Those socks with the avocados on them are awesome but way too expensive.

OK i was indeed bopping… It's a good think the DJ booth at the club is secluded as I can bust out some serious jazz dance moves with nobody watching… Fosse, Fosse, Fosse! Of course while I'm typing this thatguy is probably editing tapes of me in the DJ booth taken with a secret camera.
Re: had great sound where I was great, it would appear that the band uses a center channel type of speaker pointing directly down at the floor so no echo etc was to be heard. it was also amazing not ear-bleeding loud down front. so membership has it's privileges…
