Ever try to skip dinner? Oh geez….

I was on a red eye Air France flight from either Dulles or La Guardia to De Gaulle and they were serving their famous (insert high number here) course meal. I NEVER fly Air France but this had been a travel nightmare getting to Budapest and I was rerouted to an Air France flight on a Delta Code share. Anyhow, so I was trying to catch up on some Z's and the Frenchie flight attendant kept waking me up asking my why I didn't finish the previous course and where she should put the next course of cheeeezzzzee. After the third time I told I didn't want anymore fucking cheese and if she woke me up again I was going to stick that cheese somewhere she didn't want to see it. I was woken the next time by the French security marshall who asked me if there was problem. I explained that all I wanted to do was sleep and that she kept waking me up for the next cheese course. He asked why I didn't tell her that, and I proceeded to explain that I did, more than once, explain that I wasn't hungry and that I just wanted to sleep. And he asked, with his French accent, did you tell her in French?

I said in perfect English, "I don't speak French, sir, but apparently she knows enough English to know that I was going to stick that cheese up her ass if she came back, but now you're telling me that she doesn't know enough English to understand that all I wanted to be was left alone?"

I was left alone the rest of the flight, and somehow not met by the French police when we landed.
Thanks. I feel a definite improvement in the quality of my life because of reading that story.

Guilty as charged for perpetuating it, but I will give the honors to Rhett for the threadjack.
26 days leave
15 sick days
about 10 paid holidays

i love my leave, but dont always like the job. keep trying to tell myself that this job allows me to attend all the shows i do and that there will always be something i dont like about where i work—even if its my dream job. maybe this is my dream job and i just dont know it…yeah right
started with, and three years later still at: 20 combo days (sick + vacation), 6 holidays, max rollover 100% of sick/vacation (not hard to do, having vacation days vs. being able to take them are two very different things…)

when i finished grad school, peeps laughed at me for considering # of vacation days as highly as i did - they were only interested in starting salary and bonuses. now i see them hunting for new gigs as they get burned out, or being really miserable.

Multi-tasking! I am the master.

You'll be happy to know that while I'm not directly posting and reading today, I'm going over the latest RIAA pre-litigation letters sent to our students. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do with them. Like I said, I love my job!
Right now I could take off 2 months of work and still get paid with the vacation time I've got racked up. I need to burn through a bit before March 2008, since they've changed our policy around a bit.

Even while touring last year, I only used 7 days of vacation since I worked while on the road.

I get 11 company holidays, 2 "floating" holidays that I can use wherever I want, and I accrue 6 hours PTO every pay period, which equals 12 hours PTO a month. We can carry over up to 240 hours but the floating holidays expire at the end of the year. I think it's a pretty reasonable deal… but I also work from home, travel quite a bit for work, and get "unofficial comp time" pretty regularly. They have to be very flexible with our team's schedules because we're on 24x7 oncall. About every other month I will have to travel last minute and put in some serious hours at customer sites, pull late nights, etc, and when the dust settles my boss always tells me "turn in your expense reports then turn your cell phone off till Wednesday." We're also allowed to travel wherever we want at our expense and work from there; as long as I have Internet access and can get to an airport in less than 90 minutes, I'm good to go.

One of my co-workers has been on the team for almost 2 years; he just used his first PTO hours last week even though he's had *plenty* of time off. I've had about 6 mini-vacations (long weekend sort of thing) this year and used all of 2 leave days. I've spent complete weeks hanging with friends in Boston or NYC and not used any leave.

I was getting really jealous at some of the other posts with people who get a lot more leave than I do till I remembered all the other perks I have!

I would gladly trade my vacation perks to be a biker chick.
