fuck. we've got someone here JUST NOW bitching about not getting paid on vacation and sick days…she works here 1 day and a half a week!! tell me that's not normal.
I've got a pretty sweet deal:
20 base days (leave or sick)
10 days rolled over from last year
10 bonus days (one for each year at the company)
10 holidays
Plus, we get paid out for every day in excess of the 10 we can't roll over to the next year.

Raises depend on state and university budgets. For the new fiscal year (7/1) I got a COLA and blanket merit (to those with good marks). In addition, my job grade's salary level was adjusted (based on a bi-annual market study) resulting in the bulk of this year's raise. I've been at my job for less than a year and started at the minimum salary for my grade. Salaries below the new minimums for their grades had to be raised to at least those minimums.
On some holidays the university is open so I have to work. However, those days off are deferred to winter and spring breaks. We get the whole last week of the year off and part of spring break.

Something like 32 days PTO plus holidays.. that's from being at the same company for 17 years! And I have 500 hours untaken PTO that they have to pay me for if I leave.
When I started in the 80's, 3 weeks was typical but now most places it's 2 weeks PTO for new employees.
If you're comparing "salaried exempt" jobs, also try to get a sense of whether they're gonna screw you on working extra unpaid hours … there's usally a clue in the interview because places like that just want sheep to take advantage of. They'll ask if you mind working late.. ask them how often that happens, and if it's often, do you get comp time. Ask if raises and bonuses there are based on how much extra time people work
