Douchebag Hall of Fame

Since there are douchebags at just about every show, why not put the spotlight on these asshats who ruin it for everyone else?
At tonight's Eagles of Death Metal show, there was a big group of under-21 year old males who pushed their way up front and started fuckin' moshing.
Also, there was a dumbass in front of me who decided that despite being taller than most of the people around him to stand right up front. During the Eagles' set, he didn't move at all. No head bob, no foot tap, no "woo hoo!" as a song ended. Nothing. Why come to a show, push your way up front and then just stand in the fuckin' way?

don't take this the wrong way but you need to learn to deal…we are not 19 anymore and if you want to be polite schedule your musical nights out around the Wolf Trap lineup and realise that some of the impolite shit that you hate is a part of any "rock" show

Pushing people out of one's way is rude regardless of age. I'm not sure how old you think I am with that Wolf Trap remark. I've been to more than a few hardcore shows (and this was definitely not one of them) and can hold my own. That doesn't excuse the behavior of those guys.
And no, I don't have to learn to "deal." Just because I refuse to step down to their level doesn't make me a push-over. It makes me a mature adult. There is a difference.

Well if that tall guy wants to stand in front I don't really see any harm in that. Yeah sure it sucks to be stuck behind a guy who's much taller than you, but shit…If he isn't acting like a dick I say anyone can stand anywhere they please. If they get in your way, just move.

THOSE guys are in the Hall of Fame? C'mon. There are asswipes pushing people around at every show. And as far as the tall guy goes, its not his fault. He might have had a better time than you did. Just because he isn't breaking it down and singing at the top of his lungs and ripping his shirt off doesn't mean he's a douche. I'm not that tall, but I have found myself in front of short people before at shows. I might move a bit to the left or right, but besides that, there's not much you can do about your own genetic being. I think the suggestion that quiet, tall people are douches is a bit extreme.

Jeebus, folks. Y'all need to calm down. Grab a cup of coffee, smoke an illegal substance, have sex, whatever.
I created the post partly in jest after the Interpol one downthread. As I've said before, I go to a show to have fun. If someone gets in my way, I'll either ask them to move or move myself (usually to a better spot in the first place).

I think "booradley" might be a contender for douchebag status if he carries his "you just need to learn how to deal" attitude with him to shows, because that is exactly the attitude that causes people to behave like douchebags.

heh, sorry to be so presumptuous… my bad.
I forgive youthful enthusiasm for the most part, less so when it's exhibited by not-so-youthful yuppies who should know better by then…
I think a lot of things come down to just devoting a small amount of braintime to thinking about those around you…

people under 21 are stupid and will mosh to anything just to feel cool. sometimes they mosh when there is no music playing…they just wanted to do it. they probably thought it was a funny idea…

I've seen this before. August 31, 2003, I was a the Liquid Mix tour stop at Merriweather Post. I saw kids slamdancing to Robert Randolph and the Family Band. This not the type of dancing this kind of music was designed for. I also saw this twice when I attended 2 Fuel shows in 3 month period around last year at this time. A friend went the nutcracker, and he saw folks starting pits when the Killers and Franz played. There are some songs not worth slam dancing/start a mosh pit . Another example of lack of music education.

I'm sort of obsessed with Black Cat's no crowdsurfing and stagediving rule. Moshing is stupid.
I get angry when people don't dance at some shows. I went to go see The Faint last time they were here, and there were several people in front of my who looked bored while everyone around htem was dancing like crazy. weirdos.
But most of all I hate people who sing really loudly along with the band in your ear. It's like, "I came to hear the band, not you."

Hall of Fame, possible now with camera phones…
Some leading contenders:
1. Guy who talks under the tapers microphones (extra points for spilling drinks on the recording gear). They set up a tapers section to let people tape, and then someone f**ks it all up.
2. People who do the mega-loud whistling. It is more painful than loud music ever is.
3. Cigarette at the hip dude(tte). If you smoke in a crowded room, put that ciggie up where everyone can see it.
4. Talking dude. Wow, talk through a whole show. I once went to Cracker at the club (when Eurotrash Girl was big) and the whole crowd was louder than the band. I left 1/2 way through because you couldn't enjoy it.
5. I-want-to-be-in-front-but-I-came-late-a$$hole. I think this is who Random Citizen is really pissed about. They force their way to the front where there is no room (often knocking people over) and try to push people out of the way to get all the way up. Often kicked out, sometimes successful, never loved.
6. I-am-backstage-and-I-will-be-in-everyone-who-is-working's-way. These people need to learn that this stuff is heavy and get the heck out of the way. They feel because they are allowed backstage we must bow to them and not get in "their" way even when trying to work. Extra points for asking questions while I am working.

heh… this particular kind of douchebag can be stopped. One of them was trying to shove his way past a friend and I once, and it was quite obvious he wanted to shove his way directly in front of us, because the crowd was packed too densely. My friend blocked him with his arm and said "WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" and the douchebag didn't have a good answer beyond continuing to push. My friend said "if you don't have a place to go, I'm not letting you through." Douchebag gave up and went away.

Kids mosh to anything and everything these days so I'm not really surprised about stories of idiots moshing to Eagles of Death Metal. Its the whole jock/HFStivalized mentality that I see on occasion at bigger shows such as the Bad Religion last month where muscle bound mutants weren't into dancing but doing the whole "I'm a jock and I'm going to show you what football practice is like" thing. I like to partake in the dance of slams once in awhile if i'm in the mood but of course only at the appropritate punk shows where 20 guys in mohawks are beating each other up. And the no crowdsurfing rule at Black Cat is A Ok with me!
