It's sort of like black people calling themselves niggers.
I've always thought queer meant cool, or going against the mainstream. Just a word that goes beyond sexuality for me.

Because they've taken ownership of the word to subvert its meaning. Yup, just like 'nigger.' But still means, if you're not homosexual or black, you can't use either term.
Don't know how well it works, but it's the strategy these days.

So if queer is the same as nigger, then why is it okay for the tv show to use the word? It's not like they have the nigger music awards.
Because queers run the entertainment industry, and blacks don't.

acutually the list is pretty poor, Prince Albert was a penis piercing pioneer way before it was legal to be homosexual……
piercing is obviously nothing new, but modern body piercing would not be where it is today if not for the gay community.

I didnt know that….. A quick google search does confirm what you are saying. It does look really painful though. Despite the articles I read saying it doesnt hurt, I dont think I would take the chance………

everyone has a different experience regarding pain, but the long term results are usually worth any momentary discomfort.
What are the long term results that are so great?

I read this:
"Doug Malloy, who was one of the 'grandfathers of late 20th century piercing practices' and 'created a number of the piercings now considered standard', wrote much of the ancient history he claimed for piercing himself and that most of this was probably his own invention: 'he never produced any concurrent written records of his findings'"
here: http://homepages.primex.co.uk/~lesleyah/factoids.htm
is that true?
Must have been a great guy to manufacture such a story. I am not sure what I believe now.

or, to quote a good friend of mine: "it makes fucking better."
