I did notice that Autechre seems to make pervy-dad-IDM now, since 75% of the audience looked like they'd either (a) been on the Sex Offenders Registry, or (b) just left home for the first time in 2 years. Made for GREAT people-watching.
That just about made me spray my coffee! I didn't find the crowd that pervy, but I did really enjoy the show. I couldn't believe how much was going on in their music. I enjoyed Rob Hall's first set much more than his second. I had pretty low expectations for Massonix from things I had read, and was pleasantly surprised. Other than some boredom during his guitar noodling, I thought it was pretty solid.
Didn't do much people watching during Autechre, as my eyes were closed for a lot of it. Easier to enjoy the music and that way I would not be distracted by the glow-stick guy or the blinding phone next to me.

I'm telling you, the cutting the lights out thing was kinda awesome, but it was just a tad bit creepy with the crowd that was out. The last thing those guys needed was a shroud of darkness to add to their anonymity. Especially the lesbian-dad couple that was vigorously making out in front of me, and more specifically the pervy gentleman that was touching himself while staring at said couple. Très gross. Someone please take the ecstacy pills from the old people.

Autechre's set was pretty good. Much dancier than their studio material; I think maybe 2-3 tracks were recognizable to me.
Both of Rob Hall's sets bored me but Masonix was alright.
Still pissed at myself for not knowing that Lights were playing at the velvet lounge while Hall was on.

OK, I really have to stop drinking coffee and reading your posts. I am glad that I was a ways in front of the soundboard and missed all of the "action" that was going on behind me. I did notice that there were a lot of gay couples there last night, which I found a bit surprising. Did I miss an Autechre memo?

next week I'll see:
Booka Shade
Goldfrapp
Simian Mobile Disco
Cut Copy
The Mae Shi
all in SF during Coachella weekend…cheaper way than going to Coachella, though Coachella still ROCKS because of Aphex Twin, Portishead, and Kraftwerk.

That ecstacy/old people rant was *almost* as brilliant as xneverwherex's "great white" post in the bands that have blown stuff up thread.
Gary Higgins was excellent; even better than I could've hoped for. Nice tasteful jamming out of many of the songs from Red Hash. Got everything I wanted to hear except for "It Didn't Take Too Long." The dude on keys put a lot of nice spacy washes into all the slower songs which was a nice touch. Hope to see him again soon.

Next week I'll see:
Eisley on Monday.
*MAYBE* Goldfrapp in SF on Saturday.
*MAYBE* Simian Mobile Disco/Cut Copy in SF on Saturday.
If not G-Frapp, then definitely B-52's in Philly and DC.
It all depends on whether or not priceline accepts my bid for a flight.

gary had a great time and said he'd love to come back. i might try to bring him down for free folk phantasmagory V. the
red hash songs were amazing, and his new songs are pretty good, too. i wasn't a huge fan of the midi synth stuff, but he played it as tastefully as possible. higgins' vox were top-notch.

And maybe An Albatross in Providence.
And if anyone cares, Colin Meloy last night was pretty good. And the Pabst theater is the best sounding concert venue I've ever been to.

An Albatross may be one of the crazier shows I've been to. If I remember correctly, I was sore the next day.

Should make for a long tiring workday/flight back home the next day. But from what I've heard about their live show, it should also be worth it.

So anyone going to Autechre?
Looks like it'll be a late one.
Yes, I'm bumping the thread from the last Autechre show.
Yes, I miss Firebugg McGee.

I thin az's voice recognition software cut off "next week" and he thought he was posting in the proper thread.
