AV Club's List of Rap/Rock acts that peaked with debut

and no JAMC either?
i mean, don't get me wrong, they are one of my favorite bands…but really…Psychocandy kicked all of their other albums' asses, and this is a known fact.

I must not be a JAMC purist because Automatic was always my favorite album.

"Although released to generally poor reviews at the time, with the synthesized drums and bass being the biggest point of contention, Automatic contains their most successful single up to that point, "Head On" (later covered by Pixies). Critical and fan reception has improved with the passage of time. Pitchfork Media wrote in 2006: "Conventional wisdom wrongly calls (Automatic) the dud," of the JAMC's discography, but that in hindsight the album "feels like a career peak."

I think many people would argue that Alive! was their peak.

C'mon… All of Kiss' albums up to Love Gun are damn good. You can shit on the cartoon image, but those albums stand up as solid 70s rock.

J&MC 'Psychocandy' is a winner, can't believe that one never occured to me. Darklands is good, as is Barbed Wire Kisses (though not a proper album) but not even in the same convo as the debut. I think Automatic is ass.

I don't remember seeing the New York Dolls on that list. Considering the article is called Too Much Too Soon, I'd be kind of surprised they're not on there, especially since they ragingly qualify.

But Alive! was quasi-live versions of songs of which almost half were taken from their debut album.

They had good songs up to that point and beyond, I just think the first album was their strongest as to what material was on there though admittedly the album is a bit under-produced.
