What is the world coming to?

r.i.p. dimebag and the rest.

this is really hitting a bit close to home for me. damage plan played the club very recently, and i was in the barricade directly in front of darrell. if this had happened at the club, the guy would've had to go through me to get to the stage. not a pleasant thought.
wonder how this will affect club security at 930
all we need is some more fucking wack jobs to screw one of the last good things in this world up…concerts.

next we'll be cavity searched at all venues.

not to mention the loss of yet another great guitarist.
Holy shit…
This sucks. He was a great guitarist. I don't know anything about Damageplan but obviously knew Pantera rocked!!!!!!!! R.I.P.
Such a tragedy.

you can expect an extra service charge for this
Very sad… I heard that Vinny died earlier this morning. I thought DBD and Vinny rocked! Phil and his white power beliefs can kiss my ass; he said really F'd up things about Vin, DBD their new band. I am very curious to hear why this person went crazy. Sad, sad, sad…
Honestly, one of the best metal shows that I have seen was Pantera 10 years ago. Though it is not my music of choice, they delivered a tight, tight set! RIP.
from mtv.com:

"Damageplan had just begun their first song in front of several hundred at Alrosa Villa when the gunman jumped onstage, made a comment about Pantera's breakup, and began firing at close range into Darrell's body, shooting him several times before opening fire on the crowd."

i'm not really in the metal scene, what were the issues surrounding this?

From AP:
"Damageplan carries on the tradition Pantera started, the … hell-raising tradition we were all about," Vinnie Paul Abbott told The Dallas Morning News in October. "We do play some Pantera songs. Me and Dime wrote them, and we feel like we have the right to play them. But the focus is on Damageplan.

"It took a while for some of the Pantera fans to accept it; we knew that was gonna be the case," he said. "Change is something that people have a hard time accepting. But me and Dime intended on doing this our whole lives."
Wow that is very disturbing.

From the sounds of it the guy came from backstage. If I had been there I guess I would have thought it was all part of the show.
Vinnie did not die. He got shot in the leg. The head of Damage Plan's security Meyham was the "bouncer" mentioned in the news stories that tackled the gunman and was also killed. The killer was all of 10 years old when Pantera's "Cowboys From Hell" was released….wtf does he have to be all pissed off about? That would be like me hunting down Jimmy Page and killing him over Zeppelin breaking up!

I honestly don't think the venue really did much for security purposes. Not saying they had to do the Nation body cavity search to enter the club, but come on have security blocking off access to the stage!

Dimebag was a guitar legend and will be missed!

R.I.P.

DAVE MUSTAINE On DIMEBAG DARRELL: 'You Will Be Missed' - Dec. 9, 2004

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following statement regarding the death of DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Dimebag Darrell:

"There is nothing unique or clever to this post, and what I want to say has no doubt already been said throughout the metal community, by countless others whom were more closer to Darrell than me by now.

"However, knowing he was murdered tonight, I wish to thank and remember Darrell for his amazing life and the gift that he shared with me and so many other fortunates.

"I pray for Darrell's family and friends; specifically for their healing, their peace, and their understanding of this tragedy in this time of need.

"I send my deepest heartfelt condolences to the Abbott family, to Darrell's friends, and to the fantastic PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN fans around the world.

"We must never forget his life, and his gifts, his genius, his terrific personallity, and the legacy he left behind to remember him by.

"Darrell, I will see you in heaven and I, like so many more, love you brother.

"You will be missed."
