Pixies Reunion Shows Sell Out Immediately
Tue Feb 24, 2:41 AM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!

By Jonathan Cohen

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Confirming that interest in the Pixies' music has not waned since the band's 1993 demise, 11 of the 12 shows scheduled for the group's impending reunion tour sold out within minutes over the weekend.

At the 1,600-seat Prairieland venue in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, capacity has been doubled to accommodate additional fans.

"The demand has been so great," Prairieland events manager Carl Schlosser told Billboard.com. "We are the largest venue, so we'll be that overflow for fans who may have been shut out in other cities." Tickets for the 12th show on April 29 in Davis, Calif., go on sale March 1.

The Pixies have logged several weeks of rehearsal in Los Angeles in preparation for the North American dates, which culminate May 1 at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. "We were all a little nervous when we first got together, but within maybe five minutes, everything felt completely comfortable, and it was like the last 11 years had never happened," vocalist/guitarist Frank Black (news) said in a statement.

Added bassist Kim Deal (news), "I experienced what I call 'muscle memory' – we'd be playing a song and I didn't even have to think about what note came next – my fingers remembered what to play."

Following Coachella, the group will take a short break before hitting Europe for festivals and headlining appearances. So far, confirmed dates begin with a June 2-5 stand at London's Carling Brixton Academy and also include a June 11 appearance at the Super Bock Super Rock festival in Lisbon, two mid-June shows with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Dublin and Paris and a July 10 set at the T in the Park festival in Kinross, U.K.

UC Davis show sells out in under 5 minutes
Tickets for the Freeborn Hall show at UC Davis went on sale today at 10:00AM. PIXIESMUSIC spoke with Deborah Eidson, manager of the UC Davis Ticket Office. "We have a capacity of 1775 people," said Eidson, "and with the exception of a few tickets held for student allocation, all tickets sold out in less than 5 minutes."

Let's face it…the chances of them doing any gigs at the 9:30 Club is becoming less and less likely, unless they do about 3 or 4 nights. I'm sure they'd play someplace bigger.
looks like they will place Smith Center or something.

most likely. probably not the Patriot Center, though. Isnt that place like 10,000? I would think a 2000 or 3000 place is about right.
We might have to wait until next fall.

4AD/Beggars Group has set a May 4 release date for the Pixies retrospective "Wave of Mutilation" and a self-titled DVD. As first reported here in December, the 23-track "Mutilation" is intended as a replacement for the 1997 best-of "Death to the Pixies," which is now out of print. The set will feature such favorites as "Here Comes Your Man," "Dig for Fire" and "Gigantic" alongside a remix of "Debaser." The DVD sports a host of music videos, a 1988 concert from London and the documentary "Gouge."

The Pixies are gearing up for their first major tour since 1992, which will kick off April 14 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. According to a source, the group is still deciding its plans for after the close of a 20-plus date European run, which will end in mid-July. An extensive North American tour is taking shape for the fall.
Did you make it to this show?

I was there!

KICK ASS!!!!!
Did anyone go to the Grand Duchy show? That was the day I worked from 7am Thursday to 2pm Friday, safe to say I missed it. Just bought a ticket to see Black Francis do a solo acoustic show in SF, very excited and curious to know if anyone caught the show he did on the Eastern shore.
