foos presale + iTunes cd burning question

heads up: if you pre-order the upcoming foo fighter's album via iTunes, you also get a presale code for tickets to their fall tour:
more info - they are "expected" to play DC, along with the usual tour hotspots. album pre-orders get an advance track, and a bonus track once the album drops. calling all fan-boys and fan-girls…
related question: i don't have an ipod, so i don't have itunes on any of my computers. i got my girlfriend to pre-order the album for me, and when it arrived i'll have her burn a CD for me. how good/bad will this CD sound? it'll be from a compressed source so it obviously won't be as good as an original CD… what bitrate MP3 can one compare itunes format to? i certainly don't claim to have golden ears (insert joke about earwax here), but i am a bit of an audiophile snob.
thoughts appreciated - thanks.

cool, thanks… but does mp4 @ 128 = mp3 @ 128? (i think itunes tracks are mp4/mpa, not sure)
mind you, at this point it's too late - order has been placed, just curious.
oh, and just to be a dick: it's kbps, not mbps :p

MP4 is way better than Mp3s at low bit rates :)
Oh, thanks for correcting me, you dick.

you're welcome :)
which brings me back to my original question - to what bitrate MP3 might it be comparable?

sc-how did you find out about this? (I never receive updates from Ticketmaster even though I have it set up for particular reminders..so I'm curious.)
Is there a possibility there will be the same option via Amazon? I prefer an actual cd for certain albums/bands. Also, labels will sometimes offer both options.

i found out by checking out the front page of ticketmaster.com, i was there to buy tickets for regina spektor. no automated alert/e-mail blast, unfortunately.
check your junk mail folder, i definitely get other e-mails from TM announcing regular on-sales, upcoming shows from my favorite artists, etc.
i too would have preferred a CD, but i doubt that amazon and other outlets will have this presale ticket offer. more and more big artists are having itunes-only presales. at least they tend to have very good seats in the itunes presales.

I'd say more like 192kbps. I rarely hear artifacts in 128 AACs but for me MP3s have to be at least 192.
Another thing about AACs: besides sounding better, the files are smaller than MP3s at the same bitrate.

pshaw. if you were such an audiophile you'd be clamoring for the album.

cool, thanks. 192 is indeed tolerable.

by album, do you mean vinyl? sorry, i never got on that boat - vinyl invariably gets scratched, has pops, dust is an issue… i'm very happy with CDs. but please, let's not get into the tired old analog vs. digital debate.
or did you mean the CD instead of itunes? i definitely would have preferred that so i could rip my own MP3s (typically 256 VBR), but i really wanted the presale code which only comes with the itunes album… thus my enquiry to find out how listenable it will be. i may yet get myself the CD, depending on how much i like the recording. you'll note that i qualified my audiophileness :p

all compressed music is noticeably sucky… get a 300GB network drive and store all your music lossless…

The codes don't come out until right before the tix go on sale and by logic after the dates have been announced. This has become a pretty standard thing (Pumpkins, Interpol, Tori A, etc) with there being a four ticket limit, FOR ONE SHOW, not over the course of the tour. I received a share holder missive about the state of itunes, and these pre-sales were touted as boltstering sales X percent and as an incentive to get bonus tracks from artist and entice labels to use ITUNES PLUS. I'm an apple homer, but this is starting to sound like 21st Century payola.

I got emails from both TicketMaster and iTunes. The iTunes email said I was included because I have bought Foo tracks from them in the past. Maybe TM did something similar, since I've purchased Foo tickets online in the past.

not quote payola IMO, since that implies one person paying to have other people listen to something… in this case, it's those who are listening who are chosing to pay. i don't blame the artists at all. people have stopped buying albums. rewarding one's most loyal customers is a standard business practice.

Not to be a jerk on a Friday but if you consider yourself an audiophile who appreciates really great music, than why are you listening to the Foo Fighters?
