Coachella 2008

So far the Breeders and VHS or Beta have confirmed. Any others floating out there?
It's also looking likely that My Bloody Valentine will play. Swervedriver would be an amazing addition.
Who would be a logical headliner? Foo Fighters? That would be one night. Smashing Pumpkins might be another. I actually think I can go this year again, haven't been since 2005.

Now Confirmed:
Autolux
Cold War Kids
VHS or Beta
Death Cab for Cutie
Turbonegro
Austin TV
Very Likely (like 90%):
The Verve
B-52s
Portishead
(this according to a friend who is keeping track of all these with sources and practically sending out daily emails with updates).

For the record, also confirmed are:
Death Cab for Cutie
Cold War Kids
Autolux
Turbonegro
Austin TV
It's also looking like The Verve, The B-52s, Portishead and Caribou will be playing this thing (though none are rock-solid confirms yet).
Foo Fighters, by the way, are out of the running to be a headliner. They're going to be in Australia over Coachella weekend. I have a feeling the headliners will come from this list: R.E.M., Beastie Boys, White Stripes, Oasis, Green Day, No Doubt (reunion), Smashing Pumpkins.

Ha, yes, I never actually put it together that the screenname matched the person in real life. But it's a small world after all.

This is an odd one, but I guess it kinda makes sense since Willie Nelson played last year. According to his Myspace page, Dwight Yoakam's going to be at Coachella this year.

Ah, yes. 1994 called. It wants its bands back.
I'm most disappointed by The Verve. Was it them or William Blake who said:

More importantly, when is Dwight playing around here?

The word on this, apparently, is that at the time of the interview MBV was still iffy for Coachella, so their manager didn't want to say they were playing if they turned out not to be. Note that he didn't give a definitive "no," just said something about looking towards the shows they currently had scheduled. Now, from what I'm hearing, the chances are sounding fairly good of them playing Coachella. I'm sure we'll hear more on this in the coming weeks. If I had to guess, I'd say it's like 60/40 that they play.

having met miss p several times, i can assure that she is quite humble and nice - as long as you're not committing a major fashion faux-pas or starting sentences with a conjunction.

It would be worth it for me if Portishead played. I never got to see them.

MBV would be a huge incentive for people to go to Coachella. Goldenvoice would be stupid not to offer them a good $500,000 to a $1,000,000, and don't tell me that MBV would turn down that kind of offer. It's a win-win for everyone, which is why so many bands are coming back out of the woodwork. How many of us have seen MBV? Probably only a handful. Now if only Catherine Wheel would come back, it's just too bad they never did a "Loveless". "Chrome" is up there though, it's just not as revered by critics.

Someone posted this on brooklynvegan comments section…I'm not sure if this is accurate or just a bogus post:
My Bloody Valentine will unfortunately not be performing because Kevin Shields does not feel confident in returning to the stage that soon. Those previously announced dates will be the first. However, Coachella 2008 will have more than enough reunions: The Verve, Swervedriver, The Breeders, a No Doubt headlining set, and most surprisingly: Pulp.
Goldenvoice went through great lengths to get Jarvis Cocker to play Coachella last year and Cocker was so impressed with the vibe and weather at the festival that Paul Tollett was able to talk him into bringing the band back together for a one-off performance in 2008.
Gwen Stefani wanted to perform in the dance tent last year, but for various reasons it did not work out, but the Empire Polo Fields have been chosen as the first venue for the reunion of So-Cal favorites No Doubt. Gwen's contributions to the upcoming album are expected to begin next month.

i would like to see aphex twin again, but overall the lineup looks incredibly blah to me.
i'm not sure i want to go to coachella ever again (the festival), though..
