Fico, have you sent the same stuff to Indie 103? I know a lot of folks are listening to that station and internet stream.

I think we might have, but I'd have to check our spreadsheet to be sure…we literally have a list of about 350places where we've sent our EP to.

Which brings me to my beef with the hipster kids… they're so easy to dismiss a band when they make it yet they have no clue what it takes…the time, money, effort, frustrations, etc..entailed in trying to make this happen…how I long for the days when a label will take care of our band business..
we hate it when our friends become successful……….
and when they are dominican republican it's even worse then….

that's a pretty sweet mention from woxy…….i just hope you realise that the band member with the squiffiest hair is going to have to blow all the dj's.

quid pro quo clarice…………..
I'd like to go to the show, but it seems probably that both days of my weekend will be spent writing a paper for school. And I don't work well when I'm out late. :(

Yes…but he'll also have the benefit of taking the first cut on the femeninas…

Me? I just want to have internet access to come here once in a while and debunk all your myths about the rocanrol lifestyle…oh, and I want to play on the OC…We can always sit down and have a proper Argentinian meal with Diego and his tight pants :p

Thanks,I left a job that gave me time for access while supposedly working hard. They finally got DSL here in my neighborhood so I'm up and running at home.I have no patience to endure dial up so I was w/out for awhile.Good to be back, just figuring out board name changes at this point, but it's becoming apparent.Noticed your keeping busy. How are things at Mojo's ,they're doing well I hope?I'll be visiting here more regularly.Hope everyones doing well.
Fico, top notch show on Saturday…well done lad…

Yeah thanks a lot!!..thanks to HoyaSaxa and anyone else who showed up but couldn't say hello…'twas our first show at Iota and we enjoyed it a lot..Iota is definitely one of the best managed places we've played at..real class all the way around. The crowd (208 paying customers!!) was great to all the bands in the bill and it was quite refreshing to play for people who enjoy music and are happy to leave their pretentions at home…

See you guys next Tuesday the 22nd at DC9..we're opening up for Early Day Miners…
Can I get a list of top 5 local bands (unsigned) from you lot…some clubs in other cities want to have us with other local bands for show trading purposes.. wanted to take a poll on who you lot think are good/would be a good fit with us…

Thxs!
Fico, sorry I missed Iota: I'm down with this damned bug (cough, cough). 'catch you at DC9 for sure!

I don't know of any local bands I like who have a Cartel-like "sound" which I prefer. However - and I will be HUGELY flamed for this - I do really like Evenout (www.evenoutmusic.com) and a band called Small Town Workers (Mike Meadows at www.smalltownworkers.com) out of Charlottesville; and of course, I'm still a fan of Army of Me…can't find their website; but they're managed by Red Light Management (Scot Samson at www.redlightmanagement.com). BTW: When you say "signed" do you mean management or label?

You might want to touch base with Arthur Scott at www.IcelandAirwaves@aol.com; he's constantly bringing Icelandic groups over for tours, and I think you may find he can offer some "touring" partners with a similar sound to Cartel.
I was at Iota- I didn't have a chance to say hi to you guys, but I came out to Iota after a long day of drinking at the stupid Shamrock Fest in Ballston.

Iota was a great spot for your sound. Really a great night overall. The tunes were solid. I love Iota as a venue. I have seen one Cartel show before at the Velvet Lounge in D.C. (w/Palomar) last month.

This show was better than the Velvet show, perhaps due to the venue, crowd and energy. It was a very nice draw on this night to boot. You guys have some sort of buzz brewing. Kudos.

Thanks guys.
Foolbat

PS. Play Arlington more often!
None of these are shoe gazey in the strictest sense but have similar roots

De Novo Dahl (Super Furry Animals, etc) - Nashville

Splitsville - More of a strict power pop soun but plenty of Teenage Fanclub lurking around - Baltimore

Delegate - They were on the Franz Ferdinand & DDIHC bills at the 9:30 club. From Richmond and apparently the N.E.R.D. folks have taken an interest in them. Their EP is growing on me.

In Baltimore try the Mojo for shows…
Thanks!!!..good leads to look into all around..

Anyone have thoughts on:

- Bicycle thieves
- two if by sea
- Monopoli

Kosmo, that Delegate band seems to have some pretty nice ties…they've played few gigs, but all choice..opening slots for Franz Ferdinand, Elefant, etc…not bad for an un-signed band..

really? i listened to it once when i first got it and was unimpressed … i'll give it another spin … if i remember, delegate has a shoegazey feel going, i'd say they'd be a good match for cartel ..

by the way, great show fico, had a really good time, look for the review/interview on dcist.com soon …
I saw the singer from Bicycle Thieves play solo acoustic opening for someone at Iota eons ago. Seemed pretty decent.
An odd but interesting pairing would be with the Pale Stars, another Baltimore band and Splitsville side project. It's a combo of "country" with this very thick 80's guitar sound. Heaps of reverb, etc. Of course no website or mp3s can be found and they like Splitsville rarely play live. In fact Splitsville is more likey to tour Spain then play in the US.
I think we might have e-mailed Delegate a while back to set up some shows but never heard back…could be wrong, but not surprised..

the drummer from our band talked to the singer of Bicycle Thieves after Saturday's show if I'm not mistaken…so that's cool…just wanted to see if there were bands I should look into that I haven't listened to…

The way I see it (and I really don't know much) DC has WSC as the leading players…Army of Me, Bicycle Thieves,Carlsonics and Phaser seem to do the rounds and get shots at 9:30 and the Mainstage @ Black Cat… then there's us, Monopoli, Alcian Blue, Metropolitan, Exit Clov and others trying to get a shot at moving up…
Stuck in traffic this evening and pondering which other local bands I've enjoyed listening to recently:
Honeychuck and Pharmacy Prophets: both lively rock, great lead guitars (drummers!) and vocals. Pharmacy Prophets can be contacted thru this forum by pm'ing the Pharmacist; and the other at www.honeychuck.com.
