Closest thing to a disappointment for me this year was the Raveonettes at the RnR Hotel performing as a duo. It wasn't bad, and I thought they had a pretty full sound for having half the band, but several songs were just begging for a solid beat or a bass line. The stripped down version took a lot of the danceability out of the songs and kept the crowd from really rocking out.
Most Disappointing/Underwhelming Show of 2007 That You A
Originally posted by Cali:Simple Kid is a doll. Absolutely adorable, fun to watch and great lyrics. However he was definitely better in a smaller club with quieter audience; opening to the obnoxious KOL crowd was not the best way to hear him. I highly suggest giving him another try. And have a conversation with him if you get the chance. I repeat, an absolute doll. I wish I had been able to go up for the Spiritualized show, just to see him. I'm jealous of the UK for getting to keep him.
how about most underwhelming opener:
simple kid opening for kol/brmc
he seems like a nice guy, he just didnt fit with the other two bands and i wasnt in the mood for that kind of music.
i may give him another try b/c i do like that serotonin song.

Whatever that EMO band was that opened for Queens of the Stone Age at Ram's Head.
Spoon at Virgin Fest.
Wasn't that blown away by Bob Seger at Verizon.

Secret Machines at Highline Ballroom was way disappointing. I lasted about 20 minutes into the set before I took off. Dragons of Zynth, who opened were quite good.
Film School left a lot to be desired as well. I so much wanted to like them, but they just didnt deliver.
Worst opener was easily The Walkmen. They just seem to get more boring everytime I see them. Robbers on High Street opening for Fountains of Wayne was pretty awful too. And Grizzly Bear & Land of Talk opening for The Decemberists in Central Park just didnt seem to do well in that venue. But Land of Talk playing in the Mercury probably would make one of my top 20 shows of this year. My list of awful openers could go on.

Lily Allen at the 9:30 Club in February I think. She does not deliver live, in my opinion.
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals @ DAR
Believed the hype that his live shows are no longer an exercise in patience. I was wrong. Horrible set list coupled with a faux jam band performance = lame night out.
