Vampire Weekend are the new....?

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah?

I guess we'll see…
They're starting to annoy me already.

Exactly who I thought before clicking on the thread.
I'm not sure, but whatever they are, they've got a hold on me. Lovin the debut album.
the rapture
I think Vampire Weekend is a lot better than CYHSY. I think the more apt comparison would be to compare them with Tapes 'N Tapes. The two bands have a kinda similar sound, I think, and both got major blog exposure prior to their first album being released.
Definitely agree more with this comparison.

Franz Ferdinand
i don't know who they are the next… but am willing to bet that major bunching and twisting of clothing will occur if someone gives them a negative review of their upcoming live show..
maybe (Franz Ferdinand / Artic Monkey) (Late Night Shots) squared
I'm not going, but I'll volunteer to do the review.

*drumfill*
if we keep this thread going for a few more pages, would vampire weekend be the new smashing pumpkins?

i think the CYHSY comparison is spot-on, personally, as i don't think either band is all that great and don't understand why either one generated that much buzz. maybe i'm just getting old.
Funny…These are the exact same reasons why I'd compare them to tapes n tapes. (not much a fan of CYHSY either).

My first exposures to these bands have been on late shows. CYHSY played "In This Home On Ice" on Conan. I liked it and got the CD, which was good but not great. Later, I noticed that the chord changes in "Home On Ice" seem identical to those of George Benson's arrangement of "Breezin'" (anybody else hear this?). TnT played on Letterman and to me seemed like an "indie band in a box," not an original lick in sight. VW was on Letterman recently and were enjoyable, enough that I might pick up the disc.
Although I gave Vampire Weekend's album a D+ on my 2007 year end list, I'll take them by a rural mile over Smashing Pumpkins, despite the fact that I am indeed getting old.

The best part of overhyped bands is the inevitable hipster backlash. Vampire Weekend gets triple bonus points for eliciting both overhypedness and backlashedness prior to officially releasing their first album.

Which just goes to show how utterly pointless the indie/major dichotomy becomes every day. The indie scene is perfectly capable of eating its own without any help from the majors, thankyouverymuch.
Vampire Weekend actually have talent unlike all of the other idiot bands (except for Franz Ferdinand) you guys named in comparison. CYHSY/Tapes N Tapes are horrible!
Blogger friendly IndieBandInABox is perfect description of Tapes N Tapes, I remember being incredible annoyed by them when first hearing them. Completely disposal and forgettable.

Guitar Center's must doing a booming business these days with their Indie and Emo bandinabox kits… that and giving lessons to all those metal kids dying to get on the cover of Drum Magazine
