Phoenix & DDHIC & Long-view Rollcall
Waiting patiently to finally see Phoenix live paid off. Have been a fan since their debut release "United" with it's all over the map song stylings. Alphabet was a bit of let down, because it lacked the umph of the first. But add in a real drummer and crank up the guitars and the stuff had new life in concert. "I'm An Actor" and "Run Run Run" both better live. And opening with "Too Young" was unexpected but a great way to start the set.
As is the case when I'm DJing the couldn't really focused on the first two acts. DDIHC had a better live sound this time around, the female's vocals and keyboards were buried in the mix like last time. They were good, but nothing I'd go outta of my to see again, unlike Phoenix. I believe Long-View were from Manchester, but didn't really do much more for me.

great concert, i agree with the above reviews for the most part.
not only was the girl hard to hear during DDIHC, but the lead guitar was drowned out by vocals, something that rarely happens. that singer was impressive though.
I was very happy with Phoenix, as I wasnt the biggest fan after I heard their last album, but the tunes live made a huge difference.
I met a girl named Ena from Germany last night…then lost her…I'm pissed now

What a fun night of music. I'm too tired to write a proper review, but I thoroughly enjoyed all three bands -for different reasons. Long-view's singer had a great voice and their tunes were absorbing. Dogs Die in Hot Cars were fun and energetic and delightful. (I'm mad at myself for missing them the first time they came. Will definitely see them again.) And Phoenix had an energy and showmanship that wowed the crowd. Very tight performance that sucked you in. Groovy, entertaining tunes. All three bands were clearly enjoying themselves on stage and were very happy to see such a large crowd. I'm glad I took a chance (since I'd never heard the bands) and went!
A question: Were any of you guys (as in one guy) right in front with your girlfriend and wearing a blue/black wide-striped polo shirt? Just curious because I've seen you two at every show I've been to recently and am wondering if you're on the Forum.
Nice to see some other Forum members at the show! We're due for another Forum Gathering.

well, like kurosawa, im way too tired to really write much. i loved longview's music prior to the show, and rob's voice was sounding really great. was pleasantly surprised when they opened with 'when you sleep' and playing 'further' last was a great way to end the set. (aside from the fact i cant get the song outta my head). i loved the energy that ddihc had, especially the lead singer. didn't know a single song, but was a fun band and would see them again in a heartbeat. besides, the lead singer was adorable :D and phoenix, agree completely with what everyone said. loved the drummer, and i dont think he could have been any happier :D
btw, bunnyman… what was your friend's user name on here.. i forgot it already! and it was nice to meet some of you from here..
oh yeah..was quite nice to hear house of love, kosmo!

Long-View = Switchfoot
DDIHC = A crappy version of Talking Heads
Nice set last night Kosmo. Loved the Cartel. Cheers.

Great show overall. All three bands looked like they had a good time and the crowd was responsive. I was surprised by how empty it was when I got there at 8:30, but it slowly filled up.
Long-view
I got to the club a little late and only got to see about 3 songs. I liked what I heard. Full, lush sound with good vocals. The last song, Further, was especially strong. I was somewhat reminded of the Goo Goo Dolls, but that may have just been because the lead guy looked like Johnny Reznick.
Dogs Die in Hot Cars
DDIHC was the only group I had heard before, having bought Please Describe Yourself a few weeks ago. The album is just 100% full frontal 80s pop, Howard Jones style. Actually, I think half of their album IS Howard Jones. It wasnâ??t exactly what I was expecting, but I canâ??t deny that several of the tunes have been in the rotation recently. Even if some of the lyrics sound like they were written by Mrs. Millerâ??s 7th grade creative writing class.
Live, the band played well together and they were crisp with the songs. Nice vocal arrangements and harmonies. For a pop group, I was glad to see that they didnâ??t just play the songs â??as isâ? from the record. Well, at least with more embellishment than, say, Interpol. The first thing I noticed about the live set was how strong the lead vocal was. Heâ??s got a throaty Dexyâ??s Midnight Runners sound on the album, but he really opened it up on stage for a much better effect. It sounded like his voice was starting to wear out for a while there, I think a sign of trying really hard to put on a good show. I agree with the Talking Heads reference.
Phoenix
It took me a while to get into this group. I hadnâ??t heard their music before, and I thought the mix was off for the first few songs. Too much kick drum and not enough vocal. The songs didnâ??t seem particularly distinctive or catchy, but they had a way of pulling you in. Iâ??d start off thinking â??ehâ?, and then halfway through the song Iâ??d be groovin to it. They were a very patient band, comfortable with what they were doing and having a good time with it. They definitely won me over.
Very fun night. I could see DDIHC was digging Phoenixâ??s set from the VIP balcony, so that was cool. I also enjoyed the guy in the back yelling, â??Itâ??s ok to dance, youâ??re not going to see any of these people again!â? It was, like someone said on here once, as if the natural state of man is to be flailing around and the only thing keeping us from doing so is a crippling fear that one of the 9:30 clubbers is going to bust into your Monday morning staff meeting and pass around photos of you rocking out.

i popped down outta of my cage briefly during DDIHC set and their sound guy was bouncing and singing along with the music… probably the most engergetic soundman ever!
I don't have a review, I just wanted to say I had fun! I only saw Phoenix, we got there at 10:30 (work, ugh) but my panties were moist all night. I squiggled my way up to the front row…that's really where you gotta see 'em. I hope they come back SOON…I'm totally adoring them again.
