Anyone actually get any? Knew lots of people who all got shut out…
Modest Mouse Tickets?
I got in for two and then managed to get back in for a third when one of my friends got shut out. I normally don't have that kind of luck…
i got a pair.
D'oh. I too know a lot of people that got shut-out.
Was hoping the system was screwed up since it's all double-booked and confusing on tickets.com. Apparently not the case and we're all just too slow. dammit.

Cant beleive how quick that went away - I got the "no more tickets" message at 10:02 and tried repeatedly after that thinking the system was just messed up…. guess not.
Seems to be baltimore tix available.

you should consider lending them to walkonby, who is afraid of getting shot on U st. i've been telling him to grow some for years, maybe loaners are the way to go.
I got one "system overloaded" message right at 10, then got in and got 2…
So do I. But I bet mine look different than yours.

;D
Was locked out as well, kept trying from 10 onwards til 10:10 and kept getting system overload messages.
So, who wants to organize a forum party to get a group together to meet this guy under the guise of buying tix from him and then lynch him?
I'm not going to the show, so I don't care personally about the tix, but one person swallowing up 40 tickets for this show to sell at 100% profit is just obnoxious.
Yes, I know it is a free market and all, but these slugs should find a way to make money that actually adds something of value to society and is not just parasitic.

So how did he do it? Does he have some app that attacks tickets.com with rapid-fire requests?

He must. I was on at 10:00:00 and never got through. All I saw was error messages saying that the system was too busy to handle my request and then another message that said there weren't enough tickets together in the section I requested, even though I selected 1 Gen Adm.
I agree that capitalism is a wonderful thing, but vultures like that bastard on CraigsList are just taking advantage of people.
Well stick him back. Don't buy his shit, and he's stuck with 39 extra tickets and out nearly two grand.

My bet is anyone with 40 tickets to sell minutes after they went on sale did not buy 40 when they went on sale. The person likely had an allotment marked for them. I have met folks that are proud to be "ticket brokers" that boast about their ability to obtain quantities of tickets before the public has had a crack at them, often at lower prices than the public will pay.

I don't know, it seems doubtful to me that the 9:30 blocks off allotments of tickets to go to brokers like arenas/amphitheaters do. I would think it is more likely this guy found a way to hack the system.
For shows that are going to be instant sellouts, the 9:30 should try to have a system that actually rewards fans for effort, rather than who lucks out trying to navigate an overrun computer system which might note even be a level playing field (as this CL ad points out).
For shows like this, what about having a box office onsale for half of the ticket allotment for a couple of hours before the online onsale starts? That way people who really want the tickets can put in the effort to get them and get rewarded. I know that creates challenges and I have a job and kid, too, but it still seems much more fair to reward effort and not just be some random online crapshoot like it is now.
Then, the rest of the alloted tickets could go onsale online to give out of town people or others that don't want to put in the effort a shot at tix. This seems like a much better system to me, and one that would not be that hard to implement if the box office onsale was done at a time when the box office was open anyway.

Is it just me, or is this just bad business sense on multiple levels? Why even tell people you have 40 tickets? Not only does it upset people, it also makes them think they can wait forever to buy your tickets. After all, nobody is selling 40 tickets in a weekend. They can wait around and see if your price drops.
Don't worry - if you got shut out, this guy will be in front of the club selling them at face value on the night of the show.

Where's the link to this on your blog?

guys, just go to the Baltimore show. There are still tickets to that show as I type this. ;D
FYI guys, the person who posted that ad on craigslist was not serious… I emailed them to try to get them to see what the deal was, and it was a fake ad. It'd be impossible to pull 40 tickets to that show…
