HAHAHA…

Friendly Fires!

Word has yet to officially come down from the Lollapalooza camp, but the buzz is that the Crooked Vultures, a new supergroup featuring Queens of the Stone Age band leader Josh Homme, Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl and the mighty John Paul Jones, Led Zeppelin's legendary bass player, will provide the much-needed icing on the cake largely missing from this year's festival lineup by closing things out with a special intimate after-show Sunday night at Metro.
d'oh… thought those FF's looked familiar :P

makes me wish i was in chi-town this weekend.
2009 - year of the supergroups.  and its "them crooked vultures."  i didn't know they've been working on an album for three years.
RS sez four years in the making… damn i'd like to be at this show.  hope someone manages to get a boot.
$50!  :o  Of course, it sold out instantly anyway.

Will be interesting if any of those 3 show up to the festival itself to sit in with anyone.

Outta here tomorrow AM…

Is $50 a surprise?

These are three huge names in rock, playing a club show.  Of course it'll be a bit pricey, and of course it'll sell out anyway.

Well, 2 huge names in rock, and the father of the American Navy. But still!
grohl alone could sell out the metro.  JPJ  = led zeppelin.  so the weakest link in all of this is homme, who isn't exactly a slouch at attracting a crowd.

i suspect that even at $100 a ticket, they still would have sold out this show.
Grohl may be big, but he's the weakest link, musically at least!
As much as I love him, Homme is the weakest link popularity wise.  The Foo Fighters headline massive shows and Nirvana is one of the most well-known bands ever, Zeppelin is Zeppelin, but QOTSA still play relatively small venues.

Musically there really is no weak link.  All three of them know what they're doing.

this is why i really want to be at this show.  none of them are slouches.  seems like so many so-called super-groups have someone who doesn't really fit in… "featuring the bassist from hootie and the blowfish!  and the drummer from MGMT!!!"

not so with this group.  all three are solid.  together, there is potential for magic (or, alternately, disappointment, but i'd be willing to take my chances  ;D)
Honestly, I don't think this will disappoint.  Although the Foo Fighters' last album was rather boring, these three guys all know a thing or two about making good rock music.  Dave drumming, to me, means that this won't be another bland FF album.  Songs For The Deaf is a kick-ass album, so I think good things will come from this Grohl/Homme collaboration too.  To be frank, I could care less about JPJ.

Dude, how can Dave Grohl drummer be considered a weak link?  He's phenomenal.  He and Jimmy Chamberlain were the class of the 90's, if not the past 20 years

for joe, it's because he's sold more than 10,000 records.  people having heard of him = automatic suckage.
In Chicago now.  Going to check out the Decemberists and Heartless Bastards at the metro tonight.  Hopefully the weather holds up this weekend and hopefully no rain.  Don't want it to be like last week at APW.  The weather is nice here today.  Not so much so in Virginia this morning.

Actually, based on another forum members twitter feed, azgahal and wml7 have a lot of catching up to do to take this award from them…
